Trying to plan a trip for July/August 2006 from Edinburgh Scotland. Probably about 2 weeks duration want to spend a few days in Las Vegas but also visit San Francisco, Los Angeles as well. Is Driving recommended or am I better with internal flights

Great trip, I would say drive you will need a car to travel around San Fran and LA visiting maybe Carmel, and the Napa Valley.
There is great Valet Parking for as little as a $1(tip) at all the Strip Hotels and you will then have a car to see the Hoover Dam and Lake Mead and not forgetting the Outlet Malls
Have a great time

From SF to LA, you should definitely drive and go on the PCH. July would be a great time to do this. They have beautiful sceneries along the way, wineries, and great views of the Pacific Ocean, that you may just want to stop and enjoy!Since you have only 2 weeks to do this, you might want to just consider flying to Las Vegas from LA. They sometimes have cheap airline deals with Southwest.
I would fly to San Francisco, then drive to LA stopping at Carmel or Monterey or both. Santa Barbara is gorgeous and so is Santa Monica. then drive to Vegas and back home from there. You may have to change flights in LA. Main thing is that it%26#39;s really important to book your hotel rooms ahead. Sometimes they want a two night minimum especially at weekends. It%26#39;s a fantastic trip though.
I can recommend the following: Fly into SF do not rent a car until you are leaving since you do not need it in SF. Overnights on Highway 1 South I can recommend are Monteray and Santa Barbara. The drive to LV is ok. When in SF be sure to visit Yosemite National Park it is superb. Day trips from SF by coach are available. I would also recommend a visit to the Grand Canyon, stay overnight if you can. Fly back to sunny Scotland from LA. I have visited LA twice and am not impressed.
