air fare to vegas

I held off booking until last monday and prices dropped about $80 from Ohio to vegas on Continental. I booked monday and checked Sat nite and prices were uPPP $100. people have mentioned mondays and tuesday nights sometimes have cheap rates.

also, it doesn%26#39;t look like many seats were sold between monday and saturday.

air fare to vegas

We get our best prices on airfare through Allegiant. I would check them out if they service an airport anywhere near you. They are no frills, but as long as they get me to Vegas in one piece, I can bring my own snacks!

I just booked on AIRTRAN today from Ohio - LV (September) and it was $248.

(that included a $5 each way ';window'; seat fee)

Fall promos should start appearing in another month or so. October is a very busy month due to the great weather and lots of conventions so don%26#39;t expect too many amazing deals.

I received my October Harrahs offers today.

    What's a ';DH';?

And are there any other TA acronyms I should know of. (I%26#39;ve been on this forum for over 2 yrs and I am still at a loss sometimes when it comes to certain acronyms!)

    What's a ';DH';?

    DH = darling husband

    DD = darling daughter,

    etc.

    What's a ';DH';?

    DH= Dear Husband

    or DD, DS=Dear Daughter, Son

    MIL= Mother in Law

And of course BOGO ( buy one, get one)

I%26#39;m sure there are some others- just ask when you aren%26#39;t sure

my DH, knows that sometimes is means dear husband, other times it means dumb husband :) up to him to sort out which I am referring to.

    you got it firstimer ;)

LOL- I was on the right track... thiinking it meant Drunk Husband. And I%26#39;m glad to know now for sure since designated hitter just didn%26#39;t make sense on this forum.

    Ribs ,

    Shell Fish

Hamburgers someone as recommended best burger in the burger place at Mandalay Beach,

also where would we get a decent buffet including all this in.

    Cost not so important.

Also what would you expect to pay for a decent full breakfast buffet inc coffee/juices etc and tax at the Bellagio or MGM, were currently booked in the Four Season with breakfast inc in the rate, however im working it out whether it would be better value to stay at Bellagio or MGM Signature and pay for breakfast as we go along.

    Thanks in advance.

    On Strip Resturants

Bellagio is 13.99 per person. Includes everything you want except alcohol.

    On Strip Resturants

Thanks that great, and great price.

I%26#39; ve not eaten at MGM for awhile, but Mirage and Bellagio prices are about the same when we%26#39;ve eaten at those two places. However, we are not buffet people. Our breakfasts (juice, eggs, bacon, toast and coffee) averaged around $35-$40 for two people at the Caribe Cafe at Mirage and Cafe Bellagio (24 hr cafes) at Bellagio.

Best buffet on the strip is now supposed to be the Wynn and loads of people are always raving about the breakfast buffet at Paris.

Believe me, MGM would certainly not be as nice as the Four Seasons and much as I love Bellagio, can%26#39;t imagine it being nicer either.

Paris is priced same as Bellagio for breakfast, PH $1 less. Wynn is $20

As a general rule within classifications of hotels/buffets there isn%26#39;t much difference in pricing. they%26#39;re all within a couple dollars of each other. This changes during weekend nights and brunches. The difference can be $5-10 in those cases, and in some cases, champagne is optional.

You will eat well in any of these. In fact when you eat at a buffet it could last most of the day. Somehow whatever is your second most have to have after food might play a role in where you stay. I know I may be wrong but I just think to much food gets wasted at anyones buffet.

    Nove Italiano?

Has anoyone eaten at Nove Italiano at the Palms? I just spoke with someone who ate there last week and is raving about it, I just wanted everyone%26#39;s else%26#39;s opinions please.

    Nove Italiano?

We ate at Nove last Friday night.

    The good:

The food was excellent...superb steaks, wonderful deserts, very good service.

    The bad:

The restaurant is located on the 50th? floor but much of the view is blocked by big banquets and sheer curtains...such a shame.

This is a very noisy restaurant...tile floors and reflective ceilings...so noisy that we will probably not return. With such a spevtacular venue, the designer really botched it.

    Nove Italiano?

    I have Not eaten there, if you want Italian food try;

Hi Polka and other Laughlin Tripadvisor friends. We have just returned from the midwest after dealing with a family situation. So I hope I will be around for a while, and along with Polka and other Laughinites, will be able to offer some help and insights about our great town.

Hey, i%26#39;ve got one for you already. We ate the fajita special at the Avi last night.........awesome for $4.99. (It replaced their spagetti special in the Feathers Cafe) Don%26#39;t miss it!

    Ta ta for now.

Good to see you back. Not sure if the tourists in the poker rooms are as glad!

I%26#39;m not so sure about that Wavy. But my son is flying in to play in the World Series of Poker. He won the $10,000. buy-in in a local tournament in Wisconsin. I%26#39;m hoping that he wins enough to take care of his parents in a fashion in which they have never been accustomed. Keep an eye out for Adam Griffin on TV.

I will keep an eye on his standing. Good luck to him.

Welcome back. Hey guess what it got hot! lol.Since you were gone i worked the slot club booth at ramada and had to quit that as i got complications from food poisoning from the edr there.

Holy Cow! Guess we will avoid eating at the Ramada. Although we really love the pizza at the Italian restaurant there. I play poker there from time to time, but I guess I won%26#39;t order in any food from now on. I had to give up my Security job at the Edgewater when we left. I really liked it there and was working with some great people.

Grif sorry to hear you are leaving Laughlin. I want to thank you for all you advice about Laughlin. Good luck too you.

BTW how did your son fair at the WSOP?

Thanks for your kind words. My son%26#39;s first day of the WSOP is Saturday, July 7, at the Rio. Maybe he will pick up a few bucks and offer to share some with his poor old mama and papa. We will see. We will not be heading back to Wisconsin until the end of July.

Were there any major changes made in either the casino or hotel , when it changed from Barbary Coast to Bill%26#39;s?

    Bill's Gambling Hall

As far as I can see, the hotel is identical, the restaurants, the clubs. My boyfriend likes to gamble there...makes pretty good money. As far as the rooms are concerned...not sure if they changed those at all but from the fact that the casino hasnt changed, i can assume the rooms havent ether.

    Bill's Gambling Hall

anyone know if the Elvis impersonator is still performing in the lounge there? Every trip we mean to catch one and keep missing him!

I was there on a Thursday night about three weeks back and he was there performing in the lounge. I have also seen a guy that does Frank Sinatra

I just got back from Bill%26#39;s last week and it was great. I stayed at the Barbary years ago , and nothing has changed. we had a room on the Flamingo side and it was a little noisey but we didn%26#39;t really care, the entertainment , food and everything was good

Michaels is gone and the restaurant part of Drai%26#39;s is supposed to go away. They pulled a lot of slots out of the casino and changed all the VP paytables. My understanding is that there were a lot of changes to table game rules as well. The hotel is the same. Its still a nice place to stay but not as fun of a place to gamble.

Is there comp system any good?

the only difference I have seen is the price to stay there.

I can stay there most times for the same amt it costs to stay at bally%26#39;s or flamingo which I prefer, so, IMHO they are just losing my business by increasing their prices.

Hope they get some specials I would be willing to pay for sometime as I really want to check the place out.

    Phantom codes

That is an outrageous amount of money for airfares .How did they book it.

Thanks for your help. My folks are the best of the world but to organise them for anything requires talks about talks which can go on for sometime. And then eventually they commit to travel dates. They%26#39;re flying DUB ATL SAN then LAX to LAS ATL DUB.

I guess while it is a lot of money, they are traveling at the start of august.

    DUB-LAX-LAS,

is a lot cheaper unless they are stopping in atlanta or san fran.

We are travelling Dub-lax-las-jfk-dub,stayin in LA,Vegas and NY, and it is a hell of a lot cheaper than that.

unfortunately trip booked about five days ago...flying EI to LAX worked out at over 鈧?200. I think EI have gone to the dogs, and even in the old days wouldn%26#39;t have been worth the money.

all paid up now; and the folks are happy as clams.

I saw Phantom this week with half-off tickets purchased at the discount ticket center located right outside Fashion Show mall. The seats were center mezzanine. For this show, I would suggest seats that are as close as possible. We had three generations together and everyone enjoyed it. For us, the money saved on the tickets was worth sitting a little farther back.

Try the code ';rugblast'; - you can get orchestra seats for $75 each with it (normally $115 each).

Also, code ';POTOC2'; gets you balconey seats for $50 each, which are normally $75.

';oneyear'; is their most recent code and will get $40 off orchestra or golden circle seats. I just used it and it works fine. It%26#39;s supposed to be valid until Aug. 31/07, but their codes often work longer.

I just booked with oneyear promo code and got gold circle for $75, I think that is a fantastic price. Thank you for posting that info.

Having just returned from Vegas with a group of seven mid 30s, as long as you are dressed up ';nicely'; you should have no problem getting in anywhere you want without paying cover. The key is to make friends with the staff. Our first day we were at the Venus pool at Caesars and the manager hooked us up for VIP at Tryst, Pure and a couple other clubs. That said, if you are travelling with guys you will be in line up with them. Studio 54 was a lot of fun for us too.

My group is 30+ and we always hit PURE and Tao. Been to Rum Jungle, as well. Never feel out of place.

Here are the outlet malls . If you go to their web sites you will find a list of the stores. If you definitely want to go to an outlet mall, I would suggest Las Vegas Premium Outlets.

They have Guess, Coach, Armani, French Connection, Eddie Bauer etc. We were just there last week with my 20 year old son and his 18 year old girlfriend. The really liked these Outlets and found lots of good buys. There is a Carter%26#39;s outlet for kids clothes and a Disney outlet. I found lots of things for my Grandkids. • Casino management

How many folks , who travel to Vegas on a regular basis, have noticed a change in management that does not benefit the visitor?

    Casino management

Are you talking about comps? higher prices for buffets? restaurants?

    Casino management

casinos are in the business of making money. Most visitors are willing to help them do just that by gambling, particularly at bad games such as slots, bad rules, etc. Customer service at the top tier casinos will always be good. Most casinos, even if associated with an adjoining hotel are there own proft centers. management will make changes as it sees fit - always has and always will.

supply and demand - people play bad games, party pits, etc. buy the stock of the good companies.

Management is there to make money for the casino, no other reason. Prices are what they are because no matter how much people whine about them, they keep going back or if they don%26#39;t go back, there are others who do go and pay the prices.

  • Canadian Beer Available in Vegas

Hi I frequently go to Cleveland, OH and Binghamton, NY often and the bars there always have Canadian beer either Molson or Labatts.

Can I get Canadian beer at Las Vegas bars and in the cansinos?

    If so wich ones?

    Thanks

P.S. My American friends agree that Canadian beer is alot better that the water down American beer.

    Canadian Beer Available in Vegas

    God I hope not!

    Canadian Beer Available in Vegas

Sure, you can find Canandian beers in Vegas....

But you would be better off finding some non-ignorant American friends. Ones whose tastes extend beyond PBR, Bud and Miller.

Its not the 50s anymore man, when all American beer was indeed watered down relative to other countries. That was back when there were like 60 breweries in the whole country, all in the upper midwest or northeast, churning out generally tasteless lagers and pilsners.

Nowadays there are more than a thousand micro or macro breweries across the country, of all types and quality. They have come to absolutely dominate the international beer award scene, and only an uninformed amateur would make the statements you make in this day.

Other than Kokanee (a truly clean finish) and some of the Granville Island brews, there isn%26#39;t a Canuck brand worth drinking anymore compared to most available in the States.

Join the modern beer drinking world, it will be easy to taste it for yourself when you get to Vegas.....

Oh yeah, our coffee, ice cream and bread, which all used to be the brunt of world jokes are as good or better than anywhere else today as well.

    Sheesh.

    Ya what he said !

God bless America! (and its beer) Land that I love stand beside her and guide her ...

    amberloo,

you mentioned Kokanee, though it does not say where you are from I am going to guess north west state possible Whashington.

After all I have not seen Kokanee since the mid 90%26#39;s.

    What ever happened to Bigfoot?

..........by the light of my corner pub.

The Stanley Cup trophy has also left and made its home down here.

    Shrek,

Believe it or not it is good that southern California won the cup as this should help the NHL in the states, well except Nashville.

However as our John Madden of hockey Don Cherry would point out of the 22 players on the team 17 were Canadian.

    A little advice...

When you visit Las Vegas next, spend 10.00 on a cab ride to Tropicana, and Maryland Parkway to a place called the ';Freakin Frog';. It hosts the largest number of beers in the state of Nevada, and the count right now is over 400 different brews, and counting. The lists of American Micro Breweries goes on, and on. I suggest you try a few before you pronounce Canada the King of Beers.

Most of the Micro Brews will put Labatts to shame!!

    lukie,

I agree but those 17 are living here drinking American micro brews and eating American breads :)

Don is still working? I loved watching him, growing up in Detroit I got Windsor 9 so I had Hockey Night in Canada twice a week.

Is this great beer debate going to be the central plotline to another South Park movie featuring a US vs Canada armed conflict......?

    Amberloo I totally agree.

Kokonee is a little light, but I do like the Granville ISland beer. I found one up in Whister this winter that was ok too but I cant remember the name.

Labats is nasty, as is Bud, Miller and Coors.

US Micro brews can not be beat.

    Planet Hollywood vs TI

Hello, I can book the Planet Hollywood for the first week in October for the same price as I have had booked at TI all summer. It is a 7 night trip for our honeymoon (we are a 20 something couple)... which do you think is better for us?

Thanks so much for any advice!

    Planet Hollywood vs TI

I%26#39;d be in the minority around here I%26#39;m sure, but I would go for PH. I%26#39;m really not impressed with TI. I find the atmosphere at PH much more relaxed and quieter than TI. I prefer the quieter less crowded settings. It%26#39;s always easier to go find the action than listen to it in the hotel room next to you at 3 in the morning.

    Planet Hollywood vs TI

Well, I don%26#39;t really know how important ';quieter'; is for us (but that is definately not a bad thing!) -- I guess this is what I get out of it, is that PH is in a better spot and quieter.. but is under renovations... What are any other upsides to TI?

    Thanks!!

I%26#39;m staying at the PH for my second visit.... I love the location and the mall attached for better meal choices. I%26#39;m not a big meal person so small '; regular'; meals like two eggs, bacon for 3buck at the mexican place is great! My room was wonderful with a huge soaking tub with a view of the strip.... a dream. I would NOT want to stay on the sixth floor thats where the pool is and has LOTS of people traffic.

PS...I%26#39;ve only gambled about $20 there after I received the Red Card.

oh yeah....my prices were for a resort room.....

Low...they send you that stuff, because they think you%26#39;ll come running over from CA and spend more $$$$! LOL

They%26#39;re very close to being right!

iwas e-mailed my parlor suite at$399 plus $100free to use

The real reason they want Lowrance to stay there is obvious. If they convince him to stay there M.G.M lose a major internet marketing tool(not that I am calling you a tool buddy.........),plus his legion of devoted fans will also leave M.G.M and flock to the Wynn.

Any word on the Sept trip yet Lowrance.????

lol, you crack me up First.

No word on Sept as of yet.

gord123, I%26#39;m sure you realize the Parlor Suite is 1280sf, compared to the resort room of 640sf. Not to mention another half bath, seperate bedroom, and larger bathroom with seperate sinks, and a makeup area.... Very nice room =)

First, my stays are geared to my stomach...I can%26#39;t afford to eat at the Wynn.....lol. Not to mentioned they want you too look nice, while I wanna be casual!

    Hi All,

I got a similar offer from Wynn but it%26#39;s $119.00 (sun-thurs) $179 (fr-st) a night for 5 nights and $100 of free play. I have not gambles at Wynn in at least a year. I think they do that to lure you back into the casino. They also sent me 3 offers for friends/family for $159 (sn-th) $239 (fr-st) but there isn%26#39;t a code.

    zbethg

Yes Lowrance I heard the Wynn have this funny policy regarding long pants in the restaurants,,,,,,,,maybe you would not fit in there after all.......................lol lol(although steve would gladly you a lend of a pair of pants...........no wait ,they would still be shorts on you......lol lol )

Sorry, you have to wait for Ducky%26#39;s hubby%26#39;s pics.... he took lots (I hope!)

I%26#39;m surprised with all those Long Island Iced teas you couldn%26#39;t power the camera on your own!

Oh, I am going to have to wait until tomorrow to see those pictures :-( . I might even try looking at them at work. Of course, that means risking my job ( it is a definite no-no!) but I am sure your pictures are well worth it. lol

    Lowrance,

My boyfriend just got the new Sony Erickson camera phone, the K790a/

It is awesome, easy to use, takes great shots at 3.2 Mega pixels which is fine for trip shots, etc. Google it, it may be the perfect combo for you.

  • Vegas for non-gamblers

Yes, my husband and I are Vegas anomalies. We had a fantastic time though! We stayed at the Signature. We went to two shows, Spamalot..loved it..plan to come back and see it again...and Fab Four. We went to the Shelby Cobra Museum and the Ethel M Chocolate factory. We walked around and saw the sights. We had wonderful meals and laid by the pool. The money we would have spent gambling and most probably lost was used for generous tips. Still didn%26#39;t see everything I wanted to see and do.I am trying to convince my daughter to return with us in the spring. I am hooked. Next time I want to see a drag revue. Any recommendations on the best?

    Becky

    Vegas for non-gamblers

you%26#39;re not anomalies, as a matter of fact you are in good company. LV draws visiotrs and shows who have no interest in gambling. sports, outdoor recreation, all plentiful.

sorry, the drag shows these days are just OK - you may love it though, so give a try.

    Vegas for non-gamblers

You are the clever ones .The gamblers pay the electric bill and subsidise the hotel rooms and free shows ,and you take advantage of it.

Vegas can be all things to all people .So much to see and do besides gamble. The %of non gambling visitors in Vegas is rising every year.

I%26#39;m glad you had a good vacation in Vegas. We usually make 2 trips to Vegas each year.......one gambling and one non-gambling. We have a great time whether we%26#39;re gambling or not. Although on the non-gambling trip, I manage a few turns at the slots!! Next trip is in 3 weeks....non-gambling. Taking a 16 yr old and a 19 yr old, so that limits casino time!!

*sigh* Vegas isn%26#39;t the Vegas it used to be.

I%26#39;m not saying you are wrong in what you do, in fact it%26#39;s probably the wisest thing to do! However, there%26#39;s nothing like the rush you get when you win a big pot on the machines!

Even though I do gamble, I think if you don%26#39;t gamble you can still have a great time in LV. With all the shows, restaurants, sightseeing and people watching you can have an awsome time. But It%26#39;s hard to believe that someone would go to LV and not at least play a slot machine or 3.

    Jeff, Tampa

    I%26#39;m with you, Jeff--

My mom swore she wouldn%26#39;t gamble this time because of the cigarette smoke. The first time she was within earshot of ';WHEEL... OF... FORRRRRTUNE!'; she got that look of longing in her eye. She gambled, won, and was a happy lady.

How do you find out promotional codes for Las Vegas Hotels?

Hi there i was just wondering how people get all these promotional codes for Las Vegas Hotels?

    Thanks for your help

How do you find out promotional codes for Las Vegas Hotels?

go to the travel forum on fatwallet.com.

How do you find out promotional codes for Las Vegas Hotels?

Some come by email if you sign up at the casino web sites, some people receive mailings due to their play or stay at a casino, and the web site alot of people here use is; fatwallet.com

There is a page devoted only to Las Vegas specials.

    www.fatwallet.com/forums/messageview.php…

Copy and paste that link into your browser.Any more questions feel free to ask.

    same as all above.

Got to hotel websites and sign up for ';email promotions'; or ';sign guest book';. You will receive promotions by email.

For other deals I check these sites, but only book directly with hotels. Just looking for quick prices and deals.

If the travel sites have deals, the hotels many times will honor their price.

    Travelzoo.com

    tripres.com

    travelworm

during your first trip, sign up for players cards in the major casinos and maybe some in downtown. make sure they have your email address, use the card wherever you play and you will eventually be inundated with emails and snail mail literature.

Do be smart, there are all kinds of promo codes and if you have never been in Vegas, a lot of them were sent specifically to players card members and you probably don%26#39;r qualify.

also, visit the websites for many hotels and look, you will see promos good for anyone to use.

I have used this site before with luck.

    vegashotelspecial.com/index.php/…

    thanksgiving??

    anyone get thanksgiving promos yet????????

    thanksgiving??

I have deals for Nov. when I check the offers section on Harrahs (after logging in).

    thanksgiving??

really... how long have you had them up for November? I only go till 9/30..ugggg

November popped up last last week, Thursday or Friday. Did you try typing in your dates (after logging in) to see what rate you are getting?

yeah, so far the rates are down slightly from last week. I will give them a ring this week if the new promos dont come in. Thanks for your help!

  • Planet Hollywood vs TI

Hello, I can book the Planet Hollywood for the first week in October for the same price as I have had booked at TI all summer. It is a 7 night trip for our honeymoon (we are a 20 something couple)... which do you think is better for us?

Thanks so much for any advice!

    Planet Hollywood vs TI

    bump for help

    Planet Hollywood vs TI

I never stayed at PH but TI has been a very nice hotel ever since I started staying there.

I think this has been posted twice but I will answer again. I%26#39;m getting ready to stay here for the second time. I would not stay on the 6th floor because the pool is there and has lots of people traffic! I loved my room very big and a great tub with a view of the strip.I%26#39;m also not a big meal person so having the mall to get a '; regular'; meal is a good thing, two eggs with bacon perfect! ( the mexican resturant) I have only visited the TI but it was almost creeepy with the odd smell in the casino.... but I did not stay there soooooo ( and would not).

Good luck and you don%26#39;t spend much time in your room.....

  • bet max?

hi all me and wife are flying out from cleveland in the morning staying at ph is it always best to bet the max amount on slots?

    bet max?

yes, if your goal is to maximize your payout % on slots

if you are gambling and not trying to maximize your payout - many gamble for entertainment (crazy to me, I accept it as fact that it works for them) then decide what works for you.

    bet max?

No. It depends on the kind of slot you are playing. Look at the paytable. If the best jackpot pays more for betting the max or if it is a progreessive, then you should max bet. For newer video slots, it is usually better to pay max LINES and bet per line according to your budget and risk tolerance.

    Try checking out this article:

    鈥asinocitytimes.com/articles/17416.html

Always, always bet max on any progressive that says the progressive is only paid out with max coins in. How bad would it be to hit the winning combination and have to settle for a few hundred rather than a million or a car? Other than that, it depends on your bankroll and your expected outcome. If you are there to win big and not just to have some entertainment, you will probably want to bet max. More risk you take, more payout you get. However, if you are wanting to be entertained and any wins are just a bonus, then you do not need to bet max. If your bankroll allows you to bet max on all games, then good for you, but you will want to check carefully what the max bet is before hitting the button. A simple 9 line nickel machine with a max bet of 5 coins per line is still $2.25 a shot. However, when you get a 20 line game that jumps up to $5.00 a shot. Of course, there are machines that are less, as well as, more per max bet.

A lot of the Multi line penny slot%26#39;s the pay table doesn%26#39;t change with the amount played. So check the pay table.

    which slot machines to play?

I am wondering what are the better paying slot machines are? Like would you hit for bigger jackpots on a penny machine at max bet, around 2.00 a spin., or a 25 cent machine with a 3 coin max bet of 75 cents.

I am just curious, because you always hear that people like to play the penny slots to make their money last longer, but if they are betting max then it would go a lot quicker than a 3 coin quarter machine.

    which slot machines to play?

Well er uh....people like me without alot of money play pennies but not max bet. There are times I am only betting 9 lines x 1 so only 9 cents at a time.....and no, I won%26#39;t win much but can keep occupied for awhile so Mr. Ducky can play cards :)

    which slot machines to play?

They%26#39;re harder to find, but I like the 2 coin max quarter machines. They seem to pay out better for me. But for all actual odds, the higher the amount gambled, the better the payout. Nickle machines have the lowest payout percentage of any machine. I would stick to quarters or dollar slots over nickles.

    TopekaDucky:

I%26#39;m right there with you. I know I won%26#39;t win much at 9 x 1 cent/line, but at least I%26#39;m playing, and it lasts a little longer... sometimes ;)

The replies that you will get to this will simply be based upon the personal experiences of a few individuals. Not very scientific!

If there was a definite answer to this then entire banks of machines would go permanently untouched.

4th of July: Don't Expect Much

I know a lot of folks have been told by the hotels there sill be displays on the strip for the 4th of July, but if there is, not a word in the local paper. In fact the one annual local event, Red-White %26amp; Boom has been permanently cancelled. All I can say is what a shame a city that prospers on the American dream does nothing to show its appreciation.

What few shows are in town are small and pay per view events like at the race track and swimming pools. As usual I will be out of town on the 4th where the holiday is celebrated in style with parades, all day concerts, contest, BBQ, beer, and a spectacular display after dark all for free except the food and drink of course.

4th of July: Don't Expect Much

That is a pity.I have never been to the states for the 4th but my 2 sisters who live on long island tell me it is a great holiday with a lot of free activities and fantastic fireworks.

As Vegas is a tourist town ,you would think they would go all out to attract visitors.

Maybe they feel that with the weather and people spending time with family, that there is not enough to be gained by putting on displays

you must be going to boulder city and i think the swimming pools are free to get in on the 4th

i am also sure this anti-patriotic city will show plenty of patriotisim on the 4th

I did enjoy Red White %26amp; Boom for many years and I felt it was one of the best considering what else was available. I was able to watch the fireworks from a private home- I did not pay to get in.

Some people have been told that many of the hotels will be putting on fireworks displays on the strip. It will be interesting to see if that will happen this year. I was never impressed with the fireworks from the Strat and (I think) Caesars. And the celebrations were not necessarily held on the 4th. I do agree with VHB- what was available was nothing compared to what you see in other major cities. Or even some smaller cities.

I just got off the phone to a friend in LV who said that the Las Vegas Hilton has now stated that they will be doing a display. Apparently this has just been in the past day or two.

I am not sure where she got the info but her son works at the Hilton.

Yea, we%26#39;ve been there a couple of times on the 4th and were totally disappointed with the lack of festivities and fireworks. If I recall the Strat was the only place that had a fireworks display, and it could not be seen from most of the strip. You would think that some of the hotels would do something to make more of an impact. We were expecting a big hoopla!!! but got basically nothing.

  • Has anyone seen Danny Gans?

We are going to be in Vegas 7/7 - 7/12 and none of the headliners are playing but him. We%26#39;ve seen Celine twice and would like to have seen her again or Elton, but they aren%26#39;t there. We%26#39;ve seen O and Mystere and don%26#39;t really care to see any more Cirque shows. I also noticed David Spade was going to be there. What do you think? We are thinking about just going to see Legends.

    Has anyone seen Danny Gans?

Just my opinion but I think that Gans is the most overrated and overpriced show in town. If you want this sort of thing then Gordie Brown is loads better.

    Has anyone seen Danny Gans?

I agree with Blagger. Gordie Brown is better and a cheaper ticket.

How about shows like MamaMia, Spamalot, %26amp; Phantom? They%26#39;re all playing when you%26#39;re there.

Loved the first two, and want to see the third....

I know, I couldn%26#39;t believe the price of his tickets. Well, thanks for your input . That helps in our decision making.

Lowrance - I didn%26#39;t even think about them. I bet Phantom is amazing. Was Spamalot funny ?

Don%26#39;t get me started on quoting Monty Python.... last time I did Stratton wanted to hurt me.. Lmaooooooooo

    YES it%26#39;s funny!!!!!!!!!!!

Here%26#39;s my comments from my May Trip report:

    SPAMALOT....

Wife and June take mom to the bathroom, so as not to interrupt the show. I go and buy some Pina Coladas at the consession. $14 for the good ones, $10 for mom%26#39;s non alcoholic. She liked it.

For those with walking problems, let me warn you of 2 things. The second floor balcony is up a ton of stairs. (Didn%26#39;t see an elevator) The downstairs is VERY steep when you get inside. Luckily I made sure ahead of time and the booking person who was great, put us in the back by the door (no stairs). It%26#39;s a small theatre, so these were fine. We could see most of the facial expressions.

I%26#39;ve seen every Monte Python movie...I own several of their comedy albums (Old larger CD%26#39;s to you younger people, lol) I remember at the premier of ';Jabberwokky'; my friend sat at one side of the theatre and I sat on the other side. As the lights went down we recited the Mr%26#39;s Premise and Mr%26#39;s Contusion version of burying the cat, putting down the budgey, and dead parrot! The Python fans roared!

Anyway, my mind wasn%26#39;t 100% from everything that had lead to this part, but I did notice several things. Non stop laughter from start to finish. Great voices and acting from the actors. The Lady of the Lake hysterical and what a booming voice! Thunderous applause after every dance sequence. And John Hurley received a standing ovation in the end...

    GO SEE IT!!!!!

For a show thats overrated and priced to high, the show is usually booked solid for months at a time. In my opinion the show is excellent and worth every penny, Of course if its too much to pay then pick another cheaper show.

People use to say this about Siegfried and Roy, and how long did they Star in LV? and how many shows? and there tickets were high compared to other shows during there time.

We will be in Vegas July 1st to July 6th. The last time we went we saw Danny Gans. Just my option but I thought it was way overpriced and not very good.

Maybe there%26#39;s a reason that people that have not been to Las Vegas have never heard of Danny Gans.

Slot Winnings; Most you have won or seen won in Vegas

Seems the big slot wins are not posted or nobody sees anyone win big? In the past twenty years, when I see a decent win on slots, usually occurs at off strip casino or in another state. Understand the percentages of payback are better off strip, I find it odd that you hear of VERY few 5k plus wins at strip casinos vs. the amount of people that go there. Someones got to win sometime, guess they are all just keeping it quiet???

Whats the biggest you have won or seen won at Vegas Strip casino?

Slot Winnings; Most you have won or seen won in Vegas

I saw a trucker hit the million dollar babies at Caesers. I think it was 1996 or 97. His picture was on the video screen out front in less than an hour. I was playing the same slots about 2 machines down.....he hit it with less than $40 in!!!!

Slot Winnings; Most you have won or seen won in Vegas

I have never won a penny on slots - I%26#39;ve never bet one either. I am frugally conservative and will never play slots for that reason.

There are plenty of slot wins over 5K everywhere - it%26#39;s random. Most casinos post pictures of recent winners with amounts.

    Many big wins are advertised.

no explanation for why you don%26#39;t know about them

When we were there last December, I hit for $1035.00 on a Blazing 7%26#39;s penny slot at the Rio...but I was playing max bet at $1.80 a spin.

The largest amount that I saw was not in Vegas but in Atlantic City. A little old man, had to be in his late 80%26#39;s hit $12,000.00 on a quarter machine. Boy did the attendant paying him make a fuss while counting the money out to him. He wanted everyone around to know that someone hit big. The man was as calm as could be. Wasn%26#39;t even smiling! I would have been jumpin up and down like a fool!

I saw a girl hit a progressive at Foxwoods. I was sitting right behind her. $189,776. It was a Betty Boop quarter machine. 3 coin max bet. Within seconds after she hit, the entire casino was flooded with cameras and personnel. She didn%26#39;t even realize what she won. She only had less than $20 into the machine.

The ';jackpot'; lights were flashing, and everyone was screaming.

    It was quite exciting.

I don%26#39;t know how much the guy won, but my husband and I were standing in the taxi line outside Luxor when a commotion began stirring next to us. Guys in suits ran out, talking constantly on their walkie-talkies, then a limo pulled up, and a trolley was rolled out with champagne and other foods which were loaded into the limo. Then, the guy, ushered by many Luxor big wigs, came out and was sent on his way for a drive up the strip. (A victory lap, I guess) They were asking him if there was anything else he desired, or anything else they could do for him. We heard after he pulled away that he%26#39;d hit millions on a .25 slot machine.

I personally have not been fortunate enough to experience a great win, but there%26#39;s always next time, right ;)

Strangest thing I ever saw was a woman playing near our group at the Venetian one night - she hit 3 - $1000 spins in about an hour all on different machines - one of whichh I had just vacated !

Other than that saw another gal hit for $2000 at the Venetian and nd someone hit for $4000 I think.

Had a guy hit a Royal next to me at VP. Bummed me out actually that it was not me !

Most I have won on slot pay is a couple of $1000 wins on WOF machines. In 2004 saw a women hit the WOF jackpot for 1.9 million dollars. She was playing about 10 feet away from me.

someone rub some luck on me... wow! that would be so much fun to win like that...

My ex-bf was playing at the Venetian WOF machines and won 20k... but that was before I met him.. he was always lucky in vegas...

I%26#39;ve hit many $1000 jackpots and probably 6 or so $1000-$1800. Biggest for me was last year at Wynn on a Quarter progressive - $3086. My husband hit $5400 at Harrahs New Orleans. It can happen! :-)

Did you want proof that I am an idiot?

When I was oh so much younger, went on a girlfriend weekend to LV. We visited the then newly opened Hard Rock. My friends and I were playing .25 slots. I put in 3 quarters and it hit. Got something like $600 or so. A bit drunk and laughing, I took 3 more quarters and put it in the machine right next to it and it hit for another $600 or so. Strangely at that moment David Schwimmer walked by and smiled at me (those were the days when Friends was really big). I%26#39;ve never quite figured the it all thing out. Very surreal. Clearly its rigged; I just wish I%26#39;d have max bet on the second machine (dope slap!) I stopped gambling right then and there, but I still have fun in LV.

Most of the spas in Vegas, especially those on the strip are expensive, however they also give good treatments. Some won%26#39;t book appointments unless you are a guest in their hotel, though. Bellagio is one. I love Canyon Ranch at the Venetian and lately there%26#39;ve been nothing but rave revues for Qua at Caesar%26#39;s.

    Spa Treatments

To follow on from gabby%26#39;s post, how much (roughly) do you want to spend on ';a few treatments';?

Bellagio website will give you an idea of prices for treatments.I do not know for certain but I would say that Bellagio prices are in line with the rest of the top spas.

I have my wife booked into the Spa @Bellagio for a full day (inc salon)and is working out at $2200-2500 without tips.

We are staying in the venetian, i just taught that you would be paying 5* prices in their spa which would be above normal prices. I would usually pay 鈧?0 which is $100 for a facial here in Ireland.

    venetian.com/venetianeng/鈥paClub_Menu.pdf

Has all the prices .This is on the Venetian website. You may want to contact the concierge to book an appointment

That%26#39;s some day at the spa firsttimer! I%26#39;m treating my better half to the Bellagio stone massage. About $200 with the tip. She%26#39;s had it before and thought it was great, but the best thing for me is it gives me a couple of hours of guilt free blackjack time so it%26#39;s money well spent..... :-)

caroline, like gabby said Canyon Ranch is great. I%26#39;m not a spa person at all but I worked out at the fitness center a couple of times when I stayed at the V and everybody I spoke to raved about the spa treatments.

You%26#39;re staying at the V so paying that bit extra for Canyon Ranch is compensated by not having to go to another hotel to use whatever other spa you may decide on.

Well blagger I get a full day of blackjack............lol.

But this is a special trip for us and I am pushing the boat out.If my wife thought I was spending that much money on her she would go ballistic. So it has to be a suprise.

Great to see that romance is alive and well!

I%26#39;ll just have to to wait for my October trip with my buddies to get in some serious gambling time. lol.

    As the beatles said.

The things we do for love.......lol

    Cheap Hotel

Looking for a quick getaway and planning to see the Beatles LOVE while there. Looking to find a decent clean, cheap hotel, close to everything. HAs anyone seen teh LOVE show yet? I saw the remaining Beatles on Larry King Live the other night and now I can%26#39;t wait to see the show. Thanks for any help. nanapoopy

    Cheap Hotel

You should try Harrahs. Just got 45 per nite. Right across the street from Mirage where Love is. Was at Harrahs end of May and had to problems. Rooms nice and clean, etc.

Have a good time. I wanted to see Love, but didnt. Now we are going in Sept and there is no show the nites we are able to go.

    Bummer!!

    Cheap Hotel

Thanks, I will certainly try them out. I do know that LOVE doesnt have shows on the Tuesday or Wednesday as they are off those 2 nights. I did call to find that out. I love Vegas and have not been back since I married in 99 and I am SOOOOOOOOOO ready for a trip there. Thanks again

nana, I think you will really enjoy ';Love.'; The theater cost a zillion dollars and the seating and sound is fantastic. Please do use ';inexpensive'; rather than ';cheap'; as sometimes you get what you hope for. :%26gt;)

You are so right underpar, I apologize for the cheap word. That has happened before and we left the hotel and found another one. I am from England so I can%26#39;t wait to see the show. Thanks

Inexpensive Hotels close to Love and in my opinion the order I would choose to stay in if I had to.

    TI

    Flamingo

    Harrah%26#39;s

    IP

    Bill%26#39;s

    What do YOU consider ';cheap';?

    Bump

I saw Love in August. It was a very good show. If you haven%26#39;t gottne the tickets yet- do so as soon as possible. You do not have to sit in the expensive seats. The ';expensive'; seats are fine. I bought the most inexpensive ticket and I could see everything. Just be aware of the fact the emphasis is on the music- not on the acrobatic feats that provide the WoW factor in other CdS shows.

A college professor taught me something I%26#39;ll never forget. One should minimize the use adjectives such as ';not far';, or ';cheap'; or ';big';. Specific words such as ';2 miles';, $100 per night, or 3000 square feet is more useful. Being specific will better enable readers to give valuable information.

I suggest the Casino Royale and Bill%26#39;s, assuming you%26#39;ll be in Vegas on a weekend. Weekend prices tend to be expensive, and these will run about $90 for the Royale, and maybe $150 for Bill%26#39;s. The Casino Royale is directly across the street from the Mirage Volcano.

If your plans take you to Vegas during the week, consider Harrah鈥檚, as they will likely have some between $50-100.

    Have fun!

No one mentions this but we stayed at a Motel 6 on Tropicana and it was a very clean, adequate standard room. It was $59/night.

The staff was very attentive to anything we needed, although everything was there we needed. Plenty of towels, etc. There is a nice little restaurant next door with very reasonable rates. The breakfasts were very good in particular. For things we might have forgotten, there was a convenience store on site too.

Although it was just off the strip, in reality it was closer since all you do is open the door and you are outside. Rather than walking down long halls, waiting on an elevator then make your way through a crowded lobby to finally get out the door and make your way to the strip.

We were going to Vegas for the Vegas experience, not the hotel was our main reason for choosing this hotel over others. Its location is within walking distance of most of the better sites on that end of the strip.

I know this is not a popular choice for many people, but for budget minded travelers it is an excellent choice.

TR: Flamingo, buffets, trip with toddler and grandparents

ok... here it is... i didn%26#39;t take very good notes this time, so the details might be fuzzy.

    some background info:

we took this trip because my dad had a convention at the flamingo. my mom, her best friend Jicky, my son, and I went with him. my dad is a retired airline pilot, so he%26#39;s been to vegas many times, but usually just for one night at a time with only enough time for dinner and bed, and not usually at a strip hotel. my mom hadn%26#39;t been to vegas since a friend%26#39;s wedding maybe 10 years ago. they stayed at excalibur for the wedding. Jicky goes at least once a year and usually stays at THEhotel. her brother in law is a high roller, so they usually get VIP treatment all the way. my son turned 3 right before the trip. i was almost 4 months pregnant for the trip. we were in vegas for 5 nights and then my mom, my son, and i flew to phoenix to see family for 3 more nights. my son has food allergies, so we have to be very careful when dining out.

    sunday:

my parents, my son, and i arrived in vegas at about 1 pm on sunday. our luggage was at carousel 16 and hotel check-in was at carousel 1, so we split up. dad and son and i got checked in (we upgraded to GO rooms for $25 extra a night and we got adjoining rooms with a pool view) and mom waited for the bags. the rooms weren%26#39;t ready yet, so they gave us little claim ticket things that we could turn in for room keys at the hotel. dad went back to pick up mom and the bags and i waited near the rental car shuttle exit with the kid. we all met up and headed up to the rental car shuttle line. the line was VERY long, but there were attendants making it run smoothly, not at the mob that it was on my last visit. i%26#39;d say we waited about 15 minutes for a bus. we got to the rental car place, i headed upstairs to the hertz gold counter to pick up the car, then we loaded up and headed out.

we were starving and tired and irritated by the time we had the car and it was too late for an easy lunch buffet, so we picked up drive through food and then cruised up the strip for a while. we valet parked at flamingo (very fast and easy, much better than at MGM) and sent the bags with the bell hop. one room was ready, so we had the bags delivered there and headed up. the second room was finished as we arrived to the first room, so dad went back down to get the key and mom and i put kid down for a nap and waited for bags.

the rooms: we had one king bed and two queen beds in adjoining rooms. we were on the 20th floor with a beautiful view of the pool. the rooms had flat screen tv%26#39;s with dvd players. the beds had duvets covered with sheets (so you don%26#39;t have to worry about dirty comforters) and they were very comfortable. the drapes were controlled by switches near the beds, so you could open and close them from bed. the decor was very pink, but not too nauseating. there was a little desk with a chair and a little table with two armchairs in the 2 queens room. the king room had a little couch instead of the two chairs. the bathrooms had limited counter space, but a large open shelf under the sink so you could stash all your stuff out of the way. there was a tv in the mirror. the tub and shower were seperate. the shower was very large with a shelf for all your stuff and the water pressure and temperature were always good.

now for the bad stuff about the room: the bedside reading lamps didn%26#39;t work. we asked about them at the front desk and the clerk said that they were going to be torn out and replaced eventually because they rarely worked. there was only one lamp in the room, on the desk, so reading while someone else was sleeping was a challenge. we also had a couple other maintenance issues... the waterproof lining around the shower door was loose, so it was hard to close the shower door all the way and the little holder for the bathroom tv remote popped off the wall and scared the crap out of me. another issue is that the bathroom door was made of frosted glass. you couldn%26#39;t see clearly through it, but light from the bathroom lit the whole room at night. if you are pregnant and peeing every 2 hours all night, it becomes a problem. my recommendation: bring a flashlight for reading in bed and using the potty at night.

the negatives were really pretty minor and we were very happy with the rooms in general.

after our nap, dad had a reception to attend, so mom, kid, and i went down to the flamingo buffet for dinner. we got a $5 off coupon when we checked in to the hotel. the food was good. the crab legs were served sliced in half so they were easy to eat and they tasted great. a manager pointed out all the things that were safe for my son to eat, and there were several. i loved the little cheesecakes.

after dinner, we went back to the room and went to bed.

TR: Flamingo, buffets, trip with toddler and grandparents

    monday:

kid and i woke up early and headed to the pool. it opens at 8, but the waterfall starts at 9 and the slides open at 10. we were there at 8. things were pretty quiet at that time, so we had our choice of chairs and lots of space in the pool. there was a ton of shade and little benches scattered around in the pool, so it was nice for the kid. the kiddie pool that was shown on the map has been replaced with blackjack tables. :( on a positive note, you can get from the elevators to the pool, the buffet, and the valet parking without ever going through the smokey casino.

we swam until 9, then showered and dressed to pick up Jicky from the airport at 11. short term parking at the airport was pretty convenient, so we just parked and went in to get her. we dropped her stuff off in the room and then mom, kid, jicky, and i crossed the street to CP to do some shopping. jicky spent way too much money at judith leiber and kid threw lots of pennies into fountains. dad called to say he was free for the afternoon, so we crossed the street back to harrahs to meet him at the buffet. we had a $5 coupon from the flamingo coupon book. the lunch buffet was very good. my favorites were the lasagna, the shrimp, and the gelato. harrah%26#39;s also had angel food cake, which is safe for my son to eat. he hardly ever gets to have pastries, so it was a special treat for him.

we headed back to our rooms and i put the kid down for a nap. dad stayed in the room with the kid to get some work done and then take him down to the pool after his nap. mom, jicky, and i drove to fiesta henderson to gamble. we met back up with dad and the kid for dinner. we picked them up and drove downtown. we parked at the valet at binions (several other lots were full) and we walked to the golden nugget for dinner. i had had a wonderful brunch there on another trip, so i was excited to try the dinner buffet. it turned out to be pretty disappointing. there weren%26#39;t many choices. mom loved the pizza and we all loved the bread pudding, but we probably won%26#39;t go there for dinner again. main street station has a much better dinenr buffet.

the kid was very bored by the light show, so we went back to the room. i went to bed with the kid while mom and jicky gambled.

    tuesday:

we headed to green valley ranch for an early lunch. i had never been to GVR before. the hotel is beautiful and it was the least smokey of anywhere we played. we signed up for the slot club and got $1 off each buffet. the buffet had a large variety with lots of options for the kid. the food was very good. mom and jicky took ben to The District to shop while i played some video poker.

we met back up with dad for dinner. we drove to the Venetian and valet parked. we had reservations at Canaletto. the outside dining area was very pretty with lots to look at. mom thought the prices were good. service was VERY slow. mom%26#39;s pizza was cold, but heating it more would have dried it out. my risotto was a bit undercooked. risotto shouldn%26#39;t be crunchy. dad and jicky both liked their meals. the kid%26#39;s plate of plain spaghetti with some diced tomatoes on it cost $15. we won%26#39;t be going there again.

we dropped dad off at the hotel so he could go to bed and we drove around the strip. we tried to catch the sirens show at TI, which was supposed to be at 11:30. by 11:32, the crowd was already departing. at least the kid got to see the pirate ship.

we headed back to the hotel and went to bed.

TR: Flamingo, buffets, trip with toddler and grandparents

    wednesday:

we drove to the mirage for the lunch buffet. it was very good. they had crab legs on the lunch buffet and mom said they were her favorite so far. there were a bunch of choices for the kid. my favorites were the polenta and the flan. the shrimp were huge.

mom, jicky, and the kid went back to the forum shops and i went back to GVR to play more video poker.

we had reservations at the circus circus steakhouse for dinner with my cousins who live in vegas, so we got cleaned up and headed there. they don%26#39;t made the bread there at the restaurant, so we didn%26#39;t know if it was safe for the kid. the waiter came back with a big basket of different types of crackers and even some flour tortillas for him.

the manager came out and walked us through the rest of the menu to find things that the kid could eat. mom asked about the bean soup. the manager said ';would he prefer chicken noodle soup?'; chicken noodle soup wasn%26#39;t even on the menu, but it%26#39;s my son%26#39;s favorite. they brought out a big bowl with a wide rim. the kid picked out all the noodles and chicken and left the celery and onions and broth in the bowl. we poured the broth into a coffee cup and he drank it that way. the waiter came back with a second bowl of soup that was in a bowl with no rim, had very little broth, onions, and celery, and a ton of noodles. he brought some strained broth in a cup. i%26#39;ve never seen the staff at a restaurant anticipate my son%26#39;s needs and really jump through hoops like that for him. i was very impressed.

i had the filet, which was perfect, as usual. my mom said that the prime rib was the best she%26#39;d ever tasted. with wine, our bill for 7 people was around $300. i don%26#39;t think they even charged for the kid%26#39;s soup. we left a huge tip. ;)

we went back to the hotel and i went to bed with the kid while mom and jicky gambled.

    thursday:

i woke up early to take jicky to the airport. went i got back, mom, the kid, and i walked over to bally%26#39;s for the lunch buffet. it was awful. the only thing the kid could really eat was the pasta with marinara. mom liked the flan. i didn%26#39;t like anything. the menu you get when you call the phone information line said they had prime rib at lunch, but it was really an eye of round roast. :/ big disappointment.

we went back to the room and met up with dad. dad, the kid, and i went down to the pool while mom gambled. the pool was much more crowded in the afternoon, but we still found a couple chairs near the water slides. we spent a couple hours taking the kid down the water slides. it was fun!

i put the kid down for a nap and then went downstairs to gamble with mom while dad stayed in the room and got some work done. we played the monopoly game. i never play slots, but mom talked me into it. i won $245! it was a ton of fun.

dad had a dinner event, so mom, the kid., and i met one of my cousins for the dinner buffet at GVR. they had several options for crab legs and mom and cousin pigged out on crab. i loaded up on desserts. ;) i played some more video poker while mom and cousin hung out with the kid.

we headed back to the room, did some packing and went to bed.

    friday:

we woke up at 7, got all our stuff packed, sent the bags with a bell hop, and headed down for breakfast. we ate at the flamingo buffet. the breakfast was great! the kid had a big bowl of oatmeal and some hard boiled eggs and lots of fruit. i had yummy biscuits and gravy. they also served crepes, if you are into that sort of thing.

the bell hop met us at valet parking and we left for the airport by about 10:15. i dropped the bags and the family off at curbside check-in and then took the rental car back to the rental car return. i just barely made it to the gate. i got there about 5 minutes before they started boarding the 12:30 flight. so... if you have a rental car to return, give yourself 2.5 hours at least to get to your gate.

buffets ranked from best to worst:

    mirage

    harrahs tied with GVR

    flamingo

... big gap in quality ...

    golden nugget

    bally%26#39;s

i would really like to stay at GVR next time. i need to join their mailing list.

Great trip report and nice to hear your child was able to find a good variety of things to eat.

My cousins, who live in Vegas will a couple of times a year go and stay at the GVR for a nice get-away. They love it there, especially the teens.

    Great TR thanks for sharing.

WOW!!! Not to sound like Low, BUT the food is the best part of Vegas (other than the gambling) so really enjoyed the details.

We haven%26#39;t tried eating at Circus, Circus other than breakfast many years ago so maybe we%26#39;ll add that to our list the next time.

So did your son enjoy the trip? After reading many discussions on here concerning children in Vegas, it doesn%26#39;t appear you had any difficulties with him (and being pregnant could also pose some frustration)...think you made it work and glad you had a good time!

    topeka:

we didn%26#39;t do much walking the strip and there was always someone who could give my son full attention, so it worked out well for both of us. i%26#39;ve been pretty tired this pregnancy, so my bedtime usually matched my son%26#39;s pretty well. we managed to get in a nap every day and lots of my son%26#39;s time was spent out shopping, which is pretty much what he does at home. basically the major changes from his routine were access to a better pool than we have at home and eating at better buffets than we have at home. :D

i think it really helps a lot to have a rental car if you are in vegas with kids. we hardly spent any time at all in the sun and nobody was exausted from walking for miles.

    my son decided that the vegas hotels were all castles. i had explained to him that we were in a rental car, so when it was time for his nap, he said ';can we go to the rental castle?'; when we left, he said ';bye bye rental pool!';

he%26#39;s a good traveller in general. he%26#39;s usually pretty easy on an airplane or in a hotel. as long as we keep him supplied with DVDs, he%26#39;s happy anywhere.

I remember being 6 months pregnant and going to Chicago, and my ankles swelled so not sure if I could have done Vegas! LOL

We always use a rental and think that is a good idea too, and I am glad it was a fun experience for all of you....those casinos DO look like castles to me too tell him!

Sounds like a trip can be managed quite nicely with several generations. Your son must be well behaved to sit patiently in restaurants, without fussing. It must have felt good to have the wait staff worry about him. Poor guy, to miss out on the chance to sample a bit of anything he likes the look of. Did everyone else in the family say they would repeat the family Vegas experience?

they were just so helpful. the CC steakhouse is the kind of place where your water glass is always full but you never actually notice anyone filling it. top notch service. usually we are lucky if a waiter does more than just shrug when we ask about ingredients.

it%26#39;s not so much that he%26#39;s patient... it%26#39;s that he%26#39;s hungry. if we can get something for him to eat right away and keep the food coming, he won%26#39;t make a peep until the end of the meal. it works out really well in buffets. we just make his plate first and then he%26#39;s happy as a clam until it%26#39;s time to go. you%26#39;ve never seen a kid eat like ours! he%26#39;s usually still eating after the rest of us are finished. i guess it%26#39;s a good thing that the food allergies make us really watch what he eats. i don%26#39;t mind my son eating like a bottomless pit when he%26#39;s eating spinach and apples and grilled turkey. he%26#39;d probably weigh 100 lbs if he could eat chicken nuggets and ice cream like other kids.

i highly recommend bringing grandma along when travelling with the kids. between 4 adults, we always managed to have someone paying full attention to the kid while the rest of us all got to spend some time doing what we wanted to do.

  • Dress Code at Buzio's

I am a Vegas first timer, going to dinner on a Friday night at Buzio%26#39;s in the Rio Hotel with all my college friends. We will all be in town for a wedding and thought it would be nice to get together for dinner. We hear Buzio%26#39;s is great....

When I called to ask about the dress code, the woman I talked to said, men don%26#39;t have to wear a sport coat, but woman need to have tops. She was obviously joking....

But seriously, what is acceptable at this place?

I want to wear a white button down shirt with sear sucker pants. I want to wear nice sandals, but if they are talking about no sport coat necessary, how do you go from that to sandals?

    Dress Code at Buzio's

Dress code in Vegas restaurants is quite an inexact science. Some top-end places generally don%26#39;t have a code as such but will say what is ';preferred';. Even if you don%26#39;t dress as they suggest, chances are you%26#39;ll still be ok to eat dinner there but you may feel a little out of place.

What you%26#39;re proposing to wear at Buzio%26#39;s will be absolutely fine.

    Dress Code at Buzio's

You can wear anything you want to Buzio%26#39;s -or just about any place else in Vegas. You clothes will be fine-including sandals. You will see everything from jeans(or even shorts) to formalwear. No matter what you wear there are going to be people more casually and more formally dressed than you are so wear whatever you feel comfortable wearing. Have a great trip. It is a nice restaurant.

What is the place like? We are going there after a wedding reception and will be dressed nicely...

    mix lounge

I love the lounge at Mix. I%26#39;ve been up there a few times shortly after they open at 5pm for a couple of hours and watched the sun go down and the Strip light up. Sensational! Like most places in Vegas with a great view, you pay handsomely for your drinks.

I%26#39;ve never been there later (after 10pm) when there%26#39;s a cover charge.

    mix lounge

The view is incredible. Its not the nicest of clubs/bars, but the view more than makes up for it.

    Bill's information

We leave for Vegas this Friday and are booked at Bill%26#39;s Gamblin Hall. Does anyone know how much the charge is for their internet? Thanks!

    Bill's information

Do you mean in-room internet or in the business center?

In room internet at most Strip hotels is around $10 per day. I can%26#39;t see Bill%26#39;s being radically different. Business center rates are one step up from being a felony. Walk down to the internet places at Hawaiian marketplace (opposite Monte Carlo) for a better deal.

    Bill's information

    $10.99 per day.

Thanks! I did mean inroom internet. My husband can%26#39;t go anywhere without his laptop. Thank you so much for the info.

    MGM Player Club

Is the Player%26#39;s Club window at the MGM open 24 hours a day? We will be checking in to our room around 11:00pm but I need to stop at the Player%26#39;s Club and pick up my card before I can proceed with check-in. Any insight into this would be appreciated. Thanks in advance!

    MGM Player Club

My guess is Lowrance will know this answer for sure, and I guess if all else fails I will have to call the hotel.

Geez....I just logged onto the website, and looked through all of the ';FAQ'; hoping to answer this.....and nothing there! I can tell you Casino Marketing is open until 11 pm, but that doesn%26#39;t help you out.

    Hopefully Lowrance can answer......

why not call them and ask?

Bridge was right. I called and asked =)

and if it%26#39;s not open....blame Heather! She%26#39;s the operator who looked it up! LOL

Thanks for the help gentleman! It%26#39;s much appreciated. I am looking forward to my second stay at the MGM. Going to be a few more people in my party this time as I went solo back in February. Hoping to try some upscale dining this time around maybe Fiamma or something along those lines.

be sure to try Fiamma. The food is very good.

Play the Monte Carlo Spin %26amp; Win Machines right by the Player%26#39;s club - they usually pay pretty well! I can hear them now.... ';Spin.... and..... Win';...

god, I%26#39;d love to be getting on a plane %26amp; heading for the MGM tonight!

I can taste the Bing Cherry Daquiri%26#39;s from Centrifuge now!

While we are on the topic, can I ask why I cant join for a players card? I have email the player club people and they keep sending me the link and saying try again. Ok my problem is every time I put my address in comes back that it is wrong and to check the box ';use this address'; which I do the send s me an error code and try again later. This has been happening for weeks, is it because I live in Australia? Maybe I cant join?

If anyone has any idea%26#39;s let me know.

    Thanks

    Valley of Fire State Park

I always thought VOF and RRC were one and the same, we went to RRC last weekend and will check out VOF next trip... do you know how far away VOF is from the strip? The RRC was literally about 25-30 mins away, not too far and we could see the strip still from right around the canyon

The trip to Zion is a full day. You leave early and come back late. Unless, you%26#39;re spending the night in Zion, I wouldn%26#39;t even consider doing vof on the same trip. :VoF is close enough that you can do at another time as a half day trip.

Valley of Fire is around 70 miles from Vegas. We try to visit at least once a year and take in a couple of short hikes, it is breathtaking. We usually take a picnic and make a day of it, driving back past Lake Mead.

Drive up the main park road to White Domes. That drive is the best part of the park by far and won%26#39;t take too long. If you download the park brochure at the VoP website, you%26#39;ll see it has a map that shows what I%26#39;m talking about.

If you%26#39;re pressed for time you can definitely ignore the small loop road and the other sites of interest along Rt. 169. They%26#39;re nice but not essential, especially if you%26#39;re heading up to Zion.

Valley of Fire has truly magnificient sandstone formations. Visit the visitor%26#39;s center for information, maps, etc. You can just drive from formation to formation- getting out of the car to have a closer look. But to truly appreicate its beauty you should hike on some of the trails. Some are short. Be sure Petrogyph Canyon (a half mile round trip hike) to see the Indian wall paintings. You can take pictures at Rainbow Vista . Elephant Rock (you will understand its name as soon as you see it) is another favorite. There are petrified logs and cabins from the 30s that are now used as a picnic area. Bring your own food- there is none at the park. Bring plenty of water and wear sensible shoes- no sandals. There are restrooms.

I%26#39;m going to be in Vegas around Thanksgiving and plan to do VOF as a daytrip and drive back vua Lake Mead, too.

I%26#39;ve seen some interesting photos of sandstone slot type canyons at the park. Where are they? (You%26#39;d think after 9 days in Utah/AZ and hiking both Upper and Lower Antelope AND the Narrows at Zion, I%26#39;d have enough, but...no!) I have the whole day so can do a hike or two.

Thanks. And lama, Zion is fabulous. Take the park tram all the way to the end and walk the the trail along the river. So nice! See the Zion forum for lots of handy tips.

Bring food and drinks to VOF and picnic in the Seven Sisters area. There are covered benches amid the boulders with a good view of the desert. It%26#39;s about 65 miles from the strip but on a 75 mph road.
