Elevator Falls

Any follow up to the mishap that happened at the downtown Hotel Fitzgeralds? An elevator plunged 26 floors.

Elevator Falls

Elevator falls at Fitzgeralds

Ever wonder how fast those hotel-casino elevators travel?

Nine people at downtown casino Fitzgeralds experienced first-hand how fast.

Yesterday afternoon, one elevator was suspected at being overloaded when it fell rapidly but stopped short of hitting the bottom because of its emergency brakes. The elevator cables didn%26#39;t snap.

Among the nine people included a bellman with a cart of luggage.

Three people -- including one child -- suffered minor injuries and were taken to the hospital.

Elevator Falls

Scary. I have been in an elevator that dropped.

Actually it was apparently due to a power failure (the area was experiencing them on a regular basis so I believe, I just happened to be there at the wrong time I guess)

Not only was the fall scary, but being trapped mid way between floors, in the scorching heat in the middle of Iowa - that was scary stuff. I had my nose plastered up against the tiny cracks in the lift doors to get air. The lift was full, approx 14 people in it. One girl went hysterical and starting throwing herself on the ground, and panting and carrying on a real treat. She then spewed all over everyones feet, lovely!

Finally we got out of the lift, after approx 20 minutes wait at the maximum (I dont go in that lift anymore!) I walk those freaking steps right to the top! ha ha

Great.

One more thing I have to worry about.

The way I read this story, the emergency features kicked in the way they were supposed to and saved everyone%26#39;s lives. This story should make you feel better about riding an elevator, not worse.

The plunge is getting longer every time I read the story.

At least if there is a power failure, the music would hopefully stop.

Really, what are the chances, anyway? Like seatbelts, elevator emergency brakes save lives!

Hopefully I%26#39;ll have enough tequila in me every time I ride an elevator in Vegas I won%26#39;t have to worry about it anyway. Come to think of it, a drop in the Strat tower elevator would really be something, eh?

I always thought the brakes were to keep you from falling at all not just to kick in right before the bottom.

That%26#39;s Why I Don%26#39;t go on the luxor elevator
