Hi we are a group of four planning a 17 day trip from Las Vegas to Los Angeles.
We are planning on driving from Las Vegas to San Francisco before further driving to Los Angeles, but we will not need the car during our stay in San Francisco. What should be the best option ';pricewise';:
* rent the car for the whole trip
* or rent the car in Las Vegas , drop it in San Francisco upon arrival two days later, rent it again in San Francisco 3 days later andfinally dropping it at Los Angeles Airport at the end of our trip?
Also could somebody recommend a good rental firm other than Avis, Alamo, Hertz and Budget?
Thanks

I%26#39;m kind of curious, why wouldn%26#39;t you rent the car in LAs Vegas, drive to Los Angeles (where you absolutely need a car) and then drive from Los Angeles to San Francisco?

Nevermind, i just re-read your post where you say that you are departing from LAX at the end of your trip.
Price wise I would assume your second option to be less expensive.

You just named good rental car companies, its not so much who your renting with ITS who going to let you take the car from LV and drop it in San Fran.
We are going to be doing something similar in August. We are renting a car in Vegas and dropping it off in Los Angeles. You may want to check the prices, but it will probably work out cheaper to keep the car for the whole time. Most car rental companies charge you an extra fee to drop off in another city. The rates are also cheaper for the whole week as compared to partial weeks. When I was looking at the prices one of the cheapest seemed to be Dollar. Good luck.
We booked with Dollar - they had (what seems like) a good quality car for a reasonable price.
We didnt look much further, were happy with the easy internet booking system etc. I think dollar.com will get you there.
We are collecting at LAX and returning to Las Vegas.
Have previoulsy used Alamo and Hertz before - all decent companies in our experiences with rental cars.
It may not be worth it to have the car in San Francisco, because parking in the city is so expensive and generally a pain. Unless you plan to drive up to Sonoma/Napa, there isn%26#39;t any need to have a car while you%26#39;re up there. To give you an idea, both the Hilton and Hyatt in San Francisco charge about $50/night to park your car.
Thrifty and Dollar will probably be your 2 cheapest options. I believe they both rent largely Chrysler brand vehicles. National and Enterprise but they tend to be expensive IMO.
