Trip Report June19-22

Went to Vegas June 19-22 with my mom and the first thing I have to say is, WOW!!!! It%26#39;s been five years since I%26#39;ve been, and the amount of changes and new construction in that time was really unbelievable. We choose Ballys for this stay primarily for it%26#39;s central strip location. We had a room in the south tower and although it was a bit bland, it was large, clean, and OMG the view was GREAT!!! The Eiffle Tower was right outside our window, we could see all the way down the strip and had a 3/4 view of the Bellagio fountains. We were soooo excited!!

We spent some time exploring Ballys and Paris then realized we were getting pretty hungry. Neither of us are big buffet fans, but I really wanted a salad bar so we went to the Village Buffet in the Paris. Please note the lines here are pretty long so, don%26#39;t wait until your starving to go here. Oddly enough, their salad bar was fairly small, however, I%26#39;ve never seen so many veggie choices at a buffet before...steamed,stewed,sauteed,fried....I went back twice for the baked tomatoes. I also really enjoyed the olive bar.

After lunch we finally got around to the gambling. The only thing I ever really play are the quarter slots, so I don%26#39;t usually win much, but this trip I had some nice luck. The largest amount I won was $85, but I won something nearly every time I played....anywhere from $10 to $45. I don%26#39;t think my mom won more than once or twice, at about $10 each time.

Our time was spent doing the basics....eating,gambling,shopping,and repeating as neccessary. My husband and I will be celebrating our 17 year anniversary in Maui in late Sept and I was able to get a Hawaii ';fix'; by shopping at the ABC store and Hilo Hatties. I also discovered Margaritaville and LOVED it!!! (They win first prize for ';store that got most of my money';) Of course we also spent alot of our $$ at M%26amp;M world and the Coca-Cola store. While we were at the Coke store we saw several people with trays of soda samples. It looked like they came with little ';cheat sheets'; to let you know what the sodas were and where they came from. Has anyone done this? It looked kind of interesting. We also saw Elvis while shopping along the strip and took a few pictures with him. (of course when I tipped him he said, ';thank-you....thank-you very much'; giggle) Even though I%26#39;ve been to vegas before, it never ceases to amaze me how close everything looks, but, how far it really is when you%26#39;re walking it....especially in 105+ degrees. Whew!!

Ok, so, first prize for most delicious desserts goes to the Jean Phillippe Patisserie in Bellagio. I think we went there every day. (so, maybe all the walking was a good thing) The conservatory was beautiful as usual. This months theme was route 66.

We gambled at Ballys,Paris,Bellagio,Mirage, and Flamingo. The Flamingo wins first prize for ';Best smelling casino'; I think they pump in pina colada scented oxygen....nice.

On our last night, we ate at Fusia in the Luxor. I had a dragon roll and a crab/shrimp cake. Both were to die for! After dinner we went to see Carrot Top.....what a disappointment! I%26#39;ve always enjoyed his comedy on TV, and was really looking forward to seeing him live but... it was NOT the same. Don%26#39;t get me wrong, I realized that we were in Vegas and expected the show to be more ';adult';, but what we got was maybe 10 min worth of prop comedy and @ 50 min of almost entirely peniz humor. I wanted so badly to cover my moms ears. (several people left halfway through the show) I could have recovered from the adult humor ok, but, was mostly disappointed in the lack of anticipated props. (no worries though, by the time we were on the plane headed for home, we were getting a pretty good laugh out of the whole thing....though CT will probably not make it into my Vegas scrapbook)

Well, I guess that%26#39;s about it. I posted a few pics on snapfish if you%26#39;d like to see them go to:

Trip Report June19-22

Great report, thanks for sharing.

i tried to check the pictures, but all I got was the first (cover) page, and it didn%26#39;t let me look at your pics. Maybe I need to join in first, I don%26#39;t know

Trip Report June19-22

Sounds like it was a pretty good time for you and mom. Sometimes the walking is actually a bonus when indulging on some of the fabulous desserts.

MusicMan, i think you do need to join first....if I remember correctly, I needed to join before I was able to see other peoples vacation photos.

Great trip report and fantastic photo%26#39;s....makes me even MORE excited about my trip. 12 weeks to go!!!

I also like the ABC stores and have been to them in Hawaii, and they do carry many of the same items which makes shopping fun!

I am also glad to see you liked your room at Bally%26#39;s...we stayed there years ago and had a good experience.

Thanks for sharing your trip with us!

Great trip report!

Excellent trip report! Glad to find other travelers who bring their moms! I%26#39;m sorry to hear about Carrot Top... my brother and I saw his show about 4 years ago, and it was hysterically funny. I%26#39;m really glad I didn%26#39;t take my mom to his show, I would%26#39;ve died of embarrassment.

TT, on our way out after the show, we passed the CT merchandise booth. I asked my mom if she%26#39;d like for me to get her the DVD....she just smiled and said, ';no thank-you dear, I think you%26#39;ve done quite enough already.'; There were a few great jokes that we laughed until we cried, just too much adult stand-up and not enough of his famous prop humor.

Great report. Thanks. We stayed at Ballys in the North Tower. Glad to hear that you had a good time in ST.

Just curious, what kind of desserts did you try at JMP?

I%26#39;m sorry Madoka, I honestly don%26#39;t remember the names of the desserts we tried (other than the key lime, which was wonderful) I don%26#39;t think you can go wrong with any of them though.
