Trip Report Part 2

Thursday, got up and immediately regretted dousing my common sense voice with alcohol the night before. Walked down to the casino to go to the buffet. It was $4.99 and perhaps the best value I鈥檇 get all trip. Bacon, sausage, eggs, ham, fresh fruit and a good selection of pastries and beverages. After a couple of OJs and diet pepsi鈥檚 and a good helping of grease and fruit, we were sufficiently recovered to check out and head up to Wolf Creek golf course. This is an amazing course.

A little background. We aren鈥檛 the greatest golfers (around 10-12 handicaps) and my buddy (LD) has lived in Vegas and Tahoe and played a good number of courses in these areas and I鈥檝e played most of the courses in Oregon and a good number in Palm Springs and Vegas. This course has moved into my top three places to play! It moved right up there with 2 of the Bandon Dunes courses and Crosswater as my top four most amazing golf courses to play. I don鈥檛 really know how to describe it. It reminded me of those golf calendars with the fake courses put in places like the Grand Canyon. Lots of forced carries and huge elevation changes.

A few comments about the course鈥 round takes about 5 hours on a good day so make sure you schedule at least that much time if you play. The cart path is incredibly hilly which is almost an adventure just in itself. Course plays very fair but penalizing meaning that if you hit good shots you鈥檙e rewarded with pretty good scores and if you hit poor shots, don鈥檛 bother looking for your ball. It often gets windy later in the day here and the last 4 or 5 holes play directly into the wind. If you don鈥檛 like forced carries of 180+ yards directly into 20mph winds, play early. It was 111 degrees when we finished and once again the heat wasn鈥檛 an issue. Yes it was hot. One thing I was concerned about is that up here in Portland, on hot days I sweat and my hands get sweaty 鈥?which makes it a little tough to hang onto a club as I don鈥檛 wear a golf glove. Didn鈥檛 have any issues with that down there.

Cost of the trip 鈥?We did a golf package through Eureka Hotel/Casino and it was $151 per person for green fees on two courses and the hotel room. A great deal and we鈥檙e planning on coming back next summer to repeat the experience 鈥?maybe sans straight shots.

Got done with golf and now my Vegas trip was about to begin. LD dropped me off at the Flamingo and I went to check in. They had a Gold check-in line that was not crowded at all (the main check-in line was quite long) so that鈥檚 where I headed. Got up to the counter and asked for an upgrade (no $20 in sight!) and was offered the GO room for $40 a night. Said no thanks and was given a crappy room on the 5th floor about 20 miles from the elevator. It was clean enough although there was a lovely red stain (daiquiri colored 鈥?not blood) on the carpet. We had a panoramic view of the parking structure across the street. Very nice.

My friend CJ was flying in sometime tonight and my plan was to meet my pseudo girlfriend Angel (who coincidently (she says) booked Thursday and Friday night at Paris for this same weekend) at the Tequila Bar (my traditional Welcome to Vegas bar) for some happy hour beer/shot combos and some of that glorious fruit-infused Patron before CJ gets here. Then I get the phone call. It鈥檚 CJ telling me that his friend (who I鈥檝e never met) is coming down and staying with us for the entire time. Who does that? Now we have 3 dudes sharing a room and worse than that, one bathroom 鈥?which is a problem for completely different reasons that the prep time to get ready to go out for the night. I鈥檓 pissed. I mean we aren鈥檛 in freaking college anymore and have no reason whatsoever to save a few bucks by cramming people into a room. He senses that I鈥檓 about to have a temper-tantrum and says that he鈥檒l pay for two thirds of the room cost and sleep on the floor the entire time. As if that wasn鈥檛 a given already. Oh well. I鈥檓 on vacation right? RELAX!

Go down to the Tequila Bar to meet Angel (yes 鈥?that鈥檚 really her name and no she doesn鈥檛 swing around poles or hang out on street corners) and it鈥檚 as great as ever. We talk and I find out she鈥檚 not only staying at Paris (far, far nicer than Flamingo) but she upgraded herself to a suite. I tell her we have three dudes staying in a shoe box. She says that I should stay with her but I decline saying that this is supposed to be a guys trip and I鈥檇 feel guilty dogging out on my boys. So we wander up to Margaritaville for some nachos, wings and of course margaritas. Stopped in the high limit rooms at Bally鈥檚 and lost $200 on $5 slots. Stopped at Flamingo HLR and threw another $100 in and hit for 70 credits! Woohoo 鈥?I finally won something. Cash out for $350 and on we go.

Walked through the slum casinos (my favs) and played a little BJ and more random slots. Nothing exciting on the win side of things. CJ finally called around midnight so I walked Angel back to Paris and left to meet tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum. Met up with CJ and friend (we鈥檒l call him STD since I don鈥檛 remember his name and I wasn鈥檛 really happy about having him with me) We played some BJ at Bill鈥檚 and then headed back to Flamingo for a reasonably early night (around 2:30a) because I was playing basketball with another friend (JG) who lives down there and STD was entered into the WSOP tournament at the Rio.

Long night of listening to two fat guys saw logs so loud my earplugs went deaf.

Next boring report 鈥?Hoops, losing, buffets and suite experience.

great TR -- Can%26#39;t wait for part 3!

Just wondering though, why do you call her your pseudo gf?

This is so funny I nearly weed myself!!

Kepp up the good work

Regarding the Psuedo-Girlfriend label-

We%26#39;ve only recently started dating and I don%26#39;t consider us really exclusive - yet. But it seems like we%26#39;re heading in that direction.

lol, that you felt like you had to defend Angel%26#39;s name.

I agree, if it%26#39;s a trip with 2 guys, ask first if you an add a third....

and your names crack me up, After the first part, I thought of naming one person I know PMS, but after your STD, that would be like stealing your style....

Keep it going...

(we鈥檒l call him STD since I don鈥檛 remember his name and I wasn鈥檛 really happy about having him with me)

ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That%26#39;s a good one!! =)

Waiting for part 3....wondering if you abandon the boys for the comforts of the suite with your pseudo girlfriend!!

I would have let the boys stay at flamingo and took pseudo up on her offer.

Once your friend told you he aquired an STD and was bringing him along, you would not have been wrong to take Angel up on her offer. I believe you would have been justified under Man Law 6 chapter 4 para 7 subsection b.

Trip sound pretty good so far, looking forward to more.

trifecta,

You should of opted for Angel.

zbethg

trifecta, so you rank Wolf Creek w/ 2 Bandon courses? PD and BD I imagine? I don%26#39;t know if I%26#39;d go that far. Bandon Dunes maybe, but Pacific is a world to itself. Hopefully you can play Cascata some day to compare desert courses. Good report. Good luck w/ Angel.
