Just returned from 2 weeks (June 16-30) at The Monte Carlo. Lots of noisy building going on next to the hotel for the City Centre project with noise starting in the early hours and continuing through the day. If you are not expecting a noisy holiday by the pool then be prepared. The pool area has been reduced with loungers/sun chairs crammed in with barely enough room to move around. Pool hours are now 8am -8pm. Lots of work also going on insidethe hotel with new machines being installed and large areas curtained off. There is also a new Mexican cantina Diablos being built at the very front of the hotel somewhat ruining the %26#39;French%26#39; ambience nd adding to the generally sad appearane of the hotel. However we%26#39;ve been coming to the Monte for ten years an always enjoy it as we did this year. Tips fo Shows: Saw %26#39;Love%26#39; The Beatles Cirque de Soliel at Mirage - Excellent as were %26#39;The Fab Four%26#39; tribute band at Aladdin -ooops sorry the Plant Hollywood! Also caught Vinnie Favorito at O%26#39;Shea%26#39;s now here%26#39;s a realy funny (but v. rude) stand up comic who will have you in stitches so long as you are not easly offended. Still sad at the mess in the streets and the constant harrassment by tie share touts on the doorstep of the Monte and Girlie-card flickers along every inch of the Strip! Not pleasant.
Las vegas is changing
Eddexx, I see it was September since you posted. I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ve been checking out the forum since then but the CityCenter construction has been discussed regularly on here and a few people have changed hotels from the MC as a result.
As for the porn slappers and timeshare guys, well they ain%26#39;t going away so we%26#39;ll just have to grit our teeth and politely ignore them!
Remember as well that LV has been ';changing'; throughout its 100 year existence, it%26#39;s just that in the last 20 years things have speeded up a lot. Change is one of the things that makes Vegas what it is and when old favorites disappear then new ones will inevitably come along to replace them.
Thanks for the mini report and hope you still want to return despite the problems...... :-)
Las vegas is changing
Vegas is always changing and these days there%26#39;s construction going on all of the time, just the way it is. I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s more noticable at the MC than in other places since the building is going on right next door. There have been warnings on here for a long time about the construction and many have chosen to stay elsewhere because of the inconveniences associated with it.
Yes I agree, change is necessary and it%26#39;s a pity that more %26#39;tourist resorts%26#39; don%26#39;t update and upgrade their hotels and facilities. So it%26#39;s not a complaint -quite the reverse. Yes I do check the forum from time to time but thought anyone planning a trip to the Monte Carlo migh appreciate a bang-up-to-date progress report on the building works. Tell you what I also noticed that for the first time in several years we didn%26#39;t seem to get any return on the slots - and we played in virtually every major hotel up the Strip. Not even mini-jackpots, nothing, nada.
Yeh we%26#39;ll be returning to vegas again soon.
';There is also a new Mexican cantina Diablos being built at the very front of the hotel ';
I was wondering what they were building in front of the hotel. It looked kind of strange, could not figured out what in the world they were building.
Why outside the hotel? Anyway I will see what it looks like in October.
To me City Centre just does not excite me. But, I bet when it opens it will be fun to visit and I will change my mind hopefully. I do enjoy visiting new hotel and casinos.
Thanks for your report
Suz
I have been going to Vegas for 15 years and ,yes, it is constantly changing. If new casinos, hotels, condos aren%26#39;t going up then the older ones are building more towers, upgrading their rooms, etc. It is never ending.
I am happy you enjoyed your trip in spite of what was going on.
Hi there!
I am thinking about staying at the Monte Carlo for New Year - what is City Centre? and do you think it will be finished by the end of the year?
Thanks in advance!

hicksviv, sorry didn%26#39;t see the second part of your question!
CityCenter is currently one of the biggest construction projects on the planet. Phase One won%26#39;t be completed (if on schedule) until late 2009.
Vegas changing????
Wow, from all this stuff going on near the strip, I%26#39;m just going to hang out in seclusion at the MGM water park.... thank god that hasn%26#39;t changed......
Lowrance
I heard rumors that MGM will be imploded at the end of the year. In fact- on NYE. I new smaller one is being built in its place.
