Presidential Limo Question

Right now on the website there is a special for $110 round trip with amenities. My question is if this is a good deal or not- We have never used a limo service before so are not familiar with what current fares run- Thanks for any suggestions!!

Shona ;-)

Presidential Limo Question

We used the Presidential Limo back in May and it was the best deal ever. It is well worth the money!

Ask for Marque. He was a great driver and fun. Took us wherever we wanted to go and answered all our questions.

The Limo is so much better than getting a cab or a shuttle.

Presidential Limo Question

Dr. Vegas used them in Dec i think. He loved it. I%26#39;m sure he%26#39;ll chime in sooner or later.

I%26#39;ve used them, great service!

Well Shona, I have to answer your question with a question.

Do you need/ want to have the driver standing there with ';S. Acsmacan'; on a sign as you decend the escalator to baggage claim and then have them help you with luggage to the limo and THEN have a rose and some bubbly? OR would you be ok with just walking out there and catching a limo to your hotel for about $35

What I like about pre-booking is it%26#39;s all set. You land, get your stuff and go. Also they%26#39;ll stop so you can pick-up snacks and booze for your stay without charging extra. Then when you%26#39;re ready to leave for LAS, they call you about a half hour before and remind you they%26#39;re on their way. No fuss no muss. Is it a good deal ? No. It%26#39;s the same deal I had in Dec. Is it worth it? Absolutely! Every Penny.

Doc

Is it Marque or Marky? Asian-American guy with a super clean limo?

If it%26#39;s the same guy, yeah, he%26#39;s very cool.

Thanks so much everyone!!

Doc- Well, I dont NEED a person standing there with my last name on it as I desend the escalator, but gosh, I sure would get a kick outta it!!! Hee-hee!! And the rose and bottle of hooch doesnt sound too bad either!! I%26#39;m pretty sure we%26#39;ll try it this way since it will be our first time- Thanks so much for the great info. Even if its just the same deal as always, it still sounds like its worth it to me too!!

s;-)

Great post because I just booked this package! We have never done a limo in Vegas and since it our friends first trip I want to start the trip off right. We arrive in the morning. Early for champagne but, it is Vegas! Hope were not blasted for the Eagles game!

I was wondering this too! Thanks for the comments. I am pretty sure I have my mind made up!

';We arrive in the morning. Early for champagne but, it is Vegas! Hope were not blasted for the Eagles game!';

Funny, but that is something I%26#39;ve never worried about. Doesn%26#39;t everyone drink before, or even during a football game? Especially Eagles fans! lol

You forgot the %26#39;after the game%26#39; part, DrV! ;)

helicopter trip down the strip

does anyone know of a website that arranges the trip down the strip at night. or is it just as easy to book whilst we are there. what is typical cost. thanks all

helicopter trip down the strip

We booked through a company called Papillon Helicopters. Their website ishttp://www.papillon.com/Found they were really good and it was really reasonably priced - would recommed them.Hope this helpsregardsSusan

helicopter trip down the strip

All las vegas tours seems really nice I have not been, but have spoken on the telephone

There price is definetely the cheapest @ $54 inc

go away

Its easier to book whilst you are there and you will have a range of companies (and prices) to choose from.

Talk to your hotel concierge.

Some people cheat by doing a late afternoon/early evening trip to the Grand Canyon and you end up flying down the strip as part of that trip. (Sundance did it).

A very lucrative Tourist Trap operation.

Like sitting in a train at 100 mph looking out a little window.

Better to rent a Limo at a slower pace so U can see the sights.

All U will see is a blur of lights.

I%26#39;m going to try it at Thanksgiving. Touristy yes, but I%26#39;ve seen too many CSI reruns and want to fly over just once (yes, I know those shots are carefully filmed, but still!).

I got stuck in a limo lastyear on the strip---for three hours. We ran out of drinks and were at a standstill (an accident near the Sahara backed it all the way up). So it%26#39;s up to the person what they want. I%26#39;d rather fly over the traffic than be in it, but that%26#39;s me! :-)

Thrifty and the new rental car facilty

Hi all,

At the old Thrifty Blue Chip Members would go to a seperate line and bypass the counter. Does anyone know if this is still true at the new Thrifty counter in the rent a car facility?

TIA!

Thrifty and the new rental car facilty

If U have made a Blue Chip rental, after getting off bus, go directly downstairs to the car yard and check in with Thrifty clerk. NO NEED to go too customer service counter.

Thrifty and the new rental car facilty

We are Blue Chip members and got on the Rental Car Bus at the airport (think it was door 10....the airport staff will direct you if you ask). After a short ride to the rental car terminal, we walked in the door, took the escalator up one level, and the check-in booth was right outside the door and car was waiting for us. It was very easy to figure out the new system, and just ask anyone if you have questions, because the staff and airport and rental center tried very hard to assist everyone that had questions.

Center Stage at Plaza

Has anyone been lately. The reviews on TA are from %26#39;06. I know the view is supposed to be good for DT but is the food good. Do you need reservations? What table should we ask for etc... How does it compare to Hugo%26#39;s as far as value. I know everyone loves Hugo%26#39;s but Is it better value wise? In other words is Hugos worth the extra $100 bucks or not?

Hook%26#39;em

Center Stage at Plaza

Check out the bathrooms at The Plaza and then decide if you want to eat there. I would not eat anywhere that had a filthy bathroom and a foul-smelling hotel.

Center Stage at Plaza

Of course everybody here is going to say go to Hugo%26#39;s! It%26#39;s supposed to a better, more expensive, fancy schmancy restaurant! For me, I would much rather prefer the Center Stage. MUCH more reasonable and the portions are a LOT bigger! They have the biggest and one of the cheapest prime rib in town! I haven%26#39;t been there since last year either, so I don%26#39;t know if it%26#39;s changed.

I agree! Center Stage is a great place! I have not been there since last year either. You really can%26#39;t compare it to Hugo%26#39;s though. As stated, Hugo%26#39;s is a fancier place and of course, also way more expensive!

For the price, Center Stage is great...if you want a window seat overlooking the Fremont St lights, call for a reservation. They dim the lights, and pipe in the music for the shows.....And, they have their own bathrooms that have always been clean. I would only spend the extra money for Hugos if I won it somewhere!!

I am going to bump your message. My husband and I will be staying at the Golden Nugget week and I have been contemplating whether or not to eat there. If any TA people have eaten there recently, please let us know.

Thanks! Five days to VEGAS!

The question is really why are you thinking of eating here?

Price, quality, word of mouth??????????

There are better places to eat Downtown.

Not everyone loves Hugos, the place has been there for year%26#39;s it%26#39;s decent, it%26#39;s not a biggie as it once was in it%26#39;s glory days, now it lives on reputation and on the TA forum.

I realy dont think Hugos would be $100 more.

Center Stage is alot less expensive than Hugo%26#39;s, and the bathrooms upsatirs where the resturaunt is is spotless...

Completly different clientel than patronizes the casino.

The view of the light show is great, and I%26#39;ve gotta recommend the filet!

The Plaza STINKS, period.

Best Place To Eat Downtown Las Vegas: Hugo%26#39;s

Best Place To Eat Downtown Lockhart: Black%26#39;s BBQ or Smitty%26#39;s Market.

What stinks about the Plaza? Is it the food, service, etc.? I seriously would like to know.

Thank you =)

Just walking in that place it smells like a homeless shelter. No offense but thats just my opnion. I thought the Center Stage had decent food and yes, a fabulous view of the FSE but I wouldn%26#39;t eat there again or really recommend it to anyone.

  • Caesars Rooms

I%26#39;m booked in to Caesars from 23rd to 30th November. I know i can check in at the Airport, so thats all sweet. Thing is , i have booked in the UK through a travel agent, and knowing that my package is dirt cheap compared to the standard Virgin travel price, i assume my room won%26#39;t be the greatest.

I hear rumour of tipping the check in staff at the airport, etc. Has ayone actually done this or is it urban myth. How much, and when in proceedings is this done?

    Many thanks

    tlj

Stayed in Luxor last time, great room, no problems.

    Caesars Rooms

Caesar%26#39;s is one of the best in Las Vegas, and it%26#39;s location is right on the center of the strip, so location can%26#39;t be beat ! Have stayed here once, just a standard room, and I really liked this hotel. In my opinion, this is the best themed hotel in Vegas, and has one of the nicest pool(although Nov might be too cold to swim in). Not sure about tipping to get an upgrade, never tried it before. It%26#39;s a gamble(hey this is Vegas). Who knows, you might even get an upgrade upon checking in.

    Caesars Rooms

I stayed at Caesars in April and found them to be very difficult to deal with. Checked in at airport and 11am, they gave me my room number but said we couldn%26#39;t get in until 5pm!. Went up to the floor the room was on, and tipped the housekeeper 20 bucks, and I was in my room by noon. Don%26#39;t know about tipping for an upgrade, I have posted the same question earlier today. I have heard that this can be done, but wondered if anyone had ever tried it.

Tipping is something that most hotels in Vegas expect especially the ones on the Strip.

You can give whatever you want as far as tipping goes but they might charge a

certain tipping for carrying your bags to your room and things like that. I do know

that transportation can be alot especially buses and cabs. They do have a Tram

System that is free and is very helpful so you do not have to walk everywhere.

Getting downtown vegas you will need other transportation like cab or bus.

I%26#39;m not sure the price but I do remember it is alot. Caesars rooms are nice but

the place is in the middle of everything which is great but they might have some

hidden cost and this place is pricey on drinks and things but so is most places

    on the Strip.

    Good Luck

I had once asked a coworker of mine who goes to Vegas maybe once or twice a month, about this same thing a while back ago. He mentioned that he%26#39;s done it a few times. The last time when he went, he was at Harrahs. He had asked the checkin clerk politely that he would appreciate if she can give them a very nice room, slipped $20. She looked at her computer and she gave them a suite! So, it does happen. We did this one time also, when we saw a show in Las Vegas. My husband gave the usher $20, and asked nicely that this is a special occassion and if we can get a couple of nice seats, we were front and center! So, it is possible.

Thanks guys, nothing ventured, nothing gained. If sucessfull, i%26#39;ll report back !

Be aware that by not booking direct you lessen your chances of an upgrade.

Hotel often assign a block of the worst rooms in the house to Trave Agents since they are prepaid and you have room to complain.

Some of the older rooms in Caesars still have Murphy beds in the rooms.

    You disappoint me firsttimer!

You%26#39;ll be pleased to know that tlj did report back to the forum to say the $20 trick worked for him back in 04..... :-)

Damm damm damm, just finished a 13 hr night shift and sitting here with a cup of tea and a bacon buttie(remember those blagger). So that confirms it blagger ,time for bed....................lol lol lol

We did the $20 trick twice at Caesars. The first time we had booked a vacation package thru America West airlines. We had booked a Palace Tower room. We went to check in at 10am, and the guy said the room wasn%26#39;t ready. I handed him a $20, and he said, ';Oh wait a minute - here%26#39;s one!'; And we ended up on the top floor with a gorgeous view.

The second time we went, we were comped for 2 nights thru a host. She had made the reservation. We got to the check-in, and I handed the guy a $20. We ended up with the worst room in the place, I swear! Overlooked the top of some building; light bulbs burned out in the bathroom; etc. It was a horribly, worn out room, too.

That was the last time we stayed at Caesars and the last time we wasted a $20.

So I guess it works sometimes, and sometimes it does not.

Bacon Buttie First? I don%26#39;t want to know....lol

Anyone answering remember...this is a post from 2004.... supplying info is okay...expecting the OP to answer is not....

  • Why do you expect FREE STUFF in Vegas

I have noticed that almost all of us either talk or ask about Free stuff in Vegas.

That Free stuff can be a free upgrade, or a cheap T Shirt. It doesn%26#39;t matter, as long as its free

    Why do you expect that?

Why don%26#39;t you ask and expect Free stuff, when traveling to some other vacation spot?

Why do you expect FREE STUFF in Vegas

Because Vegas is known for giving out free stuff. A good portion of the people who go to bingo at the local casinos don%26#39;t even like bingo. They just want the free stuff like vibrating hairbrushes or a fancy sequined hat.

Why do you expect FREE STUFF in Vegas

Its hot in Vegas again. Free information.

Because they give me free stuff. Seriously though, reading up on comps and being on forums like this helped me get my expectations in order. I know that not everyone like Jean Scott, but reading a few chapters of one of her Frugal Gambler books would benefit more than a few people around her.

People get the word ';free'; confused with the word ';comp'; on this forum a lot.

I agree I get a lot of comp things but almost never are the ';free';.

Hey you can get a free $50 coffee at the slots ,first thing in the morning.

I think the Vegas of old did give away alot of stuff to get you to come back. And the really inexpensive things are gone for the most part too. But i think people used to get alot for very little, so maybe that mentality is still there?

you can get free stuff for selling your name, ie slot sign ups.

    ';Why don%26#39;t you ask and expect Free stuff, when traveling to some other vacation spot?';

That%26#39;s incorrect. People expect ';free'; upgrades at airlines either based on Elite status or frequent flyer miles, and upgrades at hotels all over the world also based on elite status and points.

People love ';buy one get one free'; deals at stores.

In other words, the appearance or illusion of getting something for nothing is a well established marketing technique to get people in the door.

I never expect anyting free. If I get a comp of some deck of cards or a cheapa$$ t-shirt that%26#39;s great , but if I even played $1 in a slot machine it still was not free, its a comp. When we check in, if the res desk asks us if we would like an upgraded room w/out a charge, we would say sure, but would not ask for it.

    Shona;-)

As VegasDan said, I expect some freebies wherever I go, not only in Vegas. And I%26#39;m no where close to frugal. I just like free anything, like everyone else in the planet.

    Las vegas is changing

Just returned from 2 weeks (June 16-30) at The Monte Carlo. Lots of noisy building going on next to the hotel for the City Centre project with noise starting in the early hours and continuing through the day. If you are not expecting a noisy holiday by the pool then be prepared. The pool area has been reduced with loungers/sun chairs crammed in with barely enough room to move around. Pool hours are now 8am -8pm. Lots of work also going on insidethe hotel with new machines being installed and large areas curtained off. There is also a new Mexican cantina Diablos being built at the very front of the hotel somewhat ruining the %26#39;French%26#39; ambience nd adding to the generally sad appearane of the hotel. However we%26#39;ve been coming to the Monte for ten years an always enjoy it as we did this year. Tips fo Shows: Saw %26#39;Love%26#39; The Beatles Cirque de Soliel at Mirage - Excellent as were %26#39;The Fab Four%26#39; tribute band at Aladdin -ooops sorry the Plant Hollywood! Also caught Vinnie Favorito at O%26#39;Shea%26#39;s now here%26#39;s a realy funny (but v. rude) stand up comic who will have you in stitches so long as you are not easly offended. Still sad at the mess in the streets and the constant harrassment by tie share touts on the doorstep of the Monte and Girlie-card flickers along every inch of the Strip! Not pleasant.

    Las vegas is changing

Eddexx, I see it was September since you posted. I don%26#39;t know if you%26#39;ve been checking out the forum since then but the CityCenter construction has been discussed regularly on here and a few people have changed hotels from the MC as a result.

As for the porn slappers and timeshare guys, well they ain%26#39;t going away so we%26#39;ll just have to grit our teeth and politely ignore them!

Remember as well that LV has been ';changing'; throughout its 100 year existence, it%26#39;s just that in the last 20 years things have speeded up a lot. Change is one of the things that makes Vegas what it is and when old favorites disappear then new ones will inevitably come along to replace them.

Thanks for the mini report and hope you still want to return despite the problems...... :-)

    Las vegas is changing

Vegas is always changing and these days there%26#39;s construction going on all of the time, just the way it is. I%26#39;m sure it%26#39;s more noticable at the MC than in other places since the building is going on right next door. There have been warnings on here for a long time about the construction and many have chosen to stay elsewhere because of the inconveniences associated with it.

Yes I agree, change is necessary and it%26#39;s a pity that more %26#39;tourist resorts%26#39; don%26#39;t update and upgrade their hotels and facilities. So it%26#39;s not a complaint -quite the reverse. Yes I do check the forum from time to time but thought anyone planning a trip to the Monte Carlo migh appreciate a bang-up-to-date progress report on the building works. Tell you what I also noticed that for the first time in several years we didn%26#39;t seem to get any return on the slots - and we played in virtually every major hotel up the Strip. Not even mini-jackpots, nothing, nada.

Yeh we%26#39;ll be returning to vegas again soon.

    ';There is also a new Mexican cantina Diablos being built at the very front of the hotel ';

I was wondering what they were building in front of the hotel. It looked kind of strange, could not figured out what in the world they were building.

Why outside the hotel? Anyway I will see what it looks like in October.

To me City Centre just does not excite me. But, I bet when it opens it will be fun to visit and I will change my mind hopefully. I do enjoy visiting new hotel and casinos.

    Thanks for your report

    Suz

I have been going to Vegas for 15 years and ,yes, it is constantly changing. If new casinos, hotels, condos aren%26#39;t going up then the older ones are building more towers, upgrading their rooms, etc. It is never ending.

I am happy you enjoyed your trip in spite of what was going on.

    Hi there!

I am thinking about staying at the Monte Carlo for New Year - what is City Centre? and do you think it will be finished by the end of the year?

    Thanks in advance!

    http://www.citycenter.com/default.aspx

hicksviv, sorry didn%26#39;t see the second part of your question!

CityCenter is currently one of the biggest construction projects on the planet. Phase One won%26#39;t be completed (if on schedule) until late 2009.

    Vegas changing????

Wow, from all this stuff going on near the strip, I%26#39;m just going to hang out in seclusion at the MGM water park.... thank god that hasn%26#39;t changed......

    Lowrance

I heard rumors that MGM will be imploded at the end of the year. In fact- on NYE. I new smaller one is being built in its place.

    cheap airfare to vegas???

Can anyone reccomend cheap airfare websites. I have been to expedia and orbitz, etc, but they all seem sorta high. Has anyone ever used a bidding website? This was reccomended to me but i am a little leary of it. What about e-bay? Help me please!!!!!

    cheap airfare to vegas???

Try priceline.com. Also sometimes can can find cheap airfare directly through the airlines on their own website.

    cheap airfare to vegas???

We are going to be in Vegas Oct 16-22 and we got our flight tickets throught America West%26#39;s website. We are flying direct from Philly to Las Vegas and the base price (without flight insurance) was only 176.00 per person. That%26#39;s a steal! I suggest going directly to the airline%26#39;s websites. Another good search aid is Side Step. They check all flights and direct you to the cheapest vendor.

JMN---How soon did you book your flights...we would like to go to Vegas in June but I%26#39;m not sure how soon I should start searching for flights.

I just booked our flights around August 14th. I had been checking the fares almost everyday and they never seems to fluctuate that much. Sometimes they did go up over 200.00, but not by very much. From PA, it aways stayed in the range of 180.00 to 210.00. I was surprised when I saw it drop down to 176.00. That was the lowest yet. I think Vegas flights usually stay pretty steady. A lot like bus trips to Atlantic City, usually the bus lines would have deals with the hotels to get people there cheap. My only suggestion is to not wait until the last minute. Then they seem to be higher. By last minute, I mean withing a week or so. Just check every day or so and when you are comfortable with the fare, book it. Even if the price drops after you have booked your flight, I am sure it%26#39;s a matter of a few dollars. I do have one bit of advice. I always thought direct non-stop flights were more expensive. I found that not to be true. Seem that you pay more in taxes when you have a lay over. Go figure. I guess you are paying for multiple airport taxes. Where are you flying from? Seems like United and America West are the cheapest from the East coast. I would also suggest booking directly with those airlines websites. Expedia and such have the same base price, but do tack on a booking fee of around 20.00 per ticket or so. Good luck! I am very confident with my info. I have surely done my airline homework. LOL

Fluffy...I did some research on flights from Pittsburgh to Las in June 2005 (for example June 11-18th, flying out on a Saturday is generally cheaper) and the flight was 204.00 on the United website. That%26#39;s a good fare. I can%26#39;t imagine that getting any cheaper. Especially from Pittsburgh cuz that is generally more expensive. Expedia was in the 210.00 price range. Just a little more info.

hi, we are going in december and i booked our flight in august with american airlines. i kept checking the prices everyday and found one for $117.00 roundtrip from chicago. you just need to keep checking everyday and if you can, check different dates. a day can make a big difference in the price.

Thanks for the advice, I%26#39;m going to start looking and probably book if I can get it for the $200 price.

If you are near a Southwest hub, that will be your best deal. Go to southwest.com and check for promotional fares or internet specials.

If you are near a southwest airlines hub, check out swavacations.com The vacation packages are decent. I saved $150 by getting the package rather than buying airfare and hotel separately.

Depending on how far you want to drive before your flight, it might be worth while to check into worryfreevacations.com as they fly out of St. Louis. I don%26#39;t know how far that is from you though. If it%26#39;s not too far, their specials go up Tues. to Thur. and vary from week to week, so it pays to keep checking. Wife and I are flying out of Tulsa this Sun. to Vegas and got round trip air for $195 for both of us. Total trip including room at Stardust was 475. Good Luck

    Voodoo Lounge pass

I just received offers with coupons from Total Rewards for up to November. I get these a lot but this time I got a coupon for a line pass and two free entries to Voodoo Lounge. As a Diamond member I always got free entry I am wondering if total rewards is discontinuing that extra. I will question my host in a couple weeks but thought I would ask here just for the heck of it.

    Voodoo Lounge pass

Shucks, I thought you were giving some away!

    Voodoo Lounge pass

I wonder if that means you can take you plus 3 people now...Maybe it was just because I was there on cholo...I mean Latin night, (Monday) but I wasn%26#39;t impressed.

Maybe tom becasue I still enjoy the place but I tend to be there on the weekends. Besides I like the view and the music so I don%26#39;t care to much about who else is there as long as I am with my honey.

Researching clubs. What type of music do they play on the weekends?

    Reserving restaurants?

First time visitor as of next week - cant wait!!! Me and my girlfriend are staying 7 nights at TI, were wondering whether we can turn up to restaurants and get a table or should I book in advance, if in advance am I able to reserve a table online? and if so how long in advance? bear in mind I%26#39;m going next wednesday.

    Reserving restaurants?

I would definately try and make reservations for 1 or 2 nights--you never know. You can try www.opentable.com

I%26#39;ve used them plenty of times and it%26#39;s easy!

    Good luck and have fun!

    Reserving restaurants?

If you are going next week then you should definitely make reservations to anywhere where you definitely want to eat. You may have left it too late for a lot of the more popular restaurants. I always make reservations well in advance. You can always cancel them if your plans change.

Some places do have online reservations. There should be a link to this on the restaurant%26#39;s website or the site of the hotel where it%26#39;s at. It%26#39;s often better to call them however as the times available when booking online aren%26#39;t necessarily all that%26#39;s available. The concierge at your hotel may be able to help also if you give them a call.

I used opentable.com to reserve at Delmonico%26#39;s 3 weeks in advance. I got a crappy time of 5:00 on a weekday. My husband called the restaurant directly and said he wanted a 6:30 reservation that same day, and they happily obliged. But I guess being overseas, it may be difficult to call the restaurant directly. Delmonico%26#39;s said they open their reservations book 6 months in advance. If you really want to try a restaurant, it is definitely best to book as soon as you can. Lots of people plan way in advance.

Folks, this is Vegas we are talking about! Money talks! If all else fails, fold up a Benjamin (or more or less depending on the restaurant), discreetly show it to the Maitre D, and many times your money will disappear, and a table suddenly become available. It helps if you are dressed appropriatly for the restaurant, and are quiet and discrete, not a loud mouth show off waiving the money around. If the Maitre D can%26#39;t accommodate you, he will discretely express his regrets, and nothing is lost. I have done this many times in Las Vegas, and have rarely been turned away.

    p_jay2001

Where will you be staying? Perhaps you can e-mail (or call) the concierge at your hotel and ask them to make your reservations. You will have to know where you want to dine plus dates and times. That way it can be taken care of through one contact by you. If you can work this, be sure to get the name of the person helping you, so you can reward them properly when you get to the hotel.

    Have a great trip!

    Camille

Thanks for your help! I tend to leave most things until the last minute so booking 6 months in advance is not an option! :-)

p_jay2001 - thanks for that bit of advice, will simply flashing a 100 dollar bill get me the table or is this as a tip/bribe?

I%26#39;m staying at the Treasure Island so I%26#39;ll be sure to drop them an email outlining my requests, I suppose it can%26#39;t do any harm thats for sure!

Regarding the tip or bribe issue, you could say that it%26#39;s a bit of both. The high end restaurants in Vegas invariably hold back tables in case high rollers want to eat there at next to no notice so there are often tables free at any given time. If you%26#39;re happy to walk into a place and give over $100 to secure a table that%26#39;s entirely your decision.

Regarding contacting the concierge at TI, I would call them rather than emailing. That way you can establish a personal relationship with whoever you speak to you and your chances of them getting you reservations at short notice will probably increase as a result. Also if they get what you%26#39;ve requested it%26#39;s a lot nicer for both parties when you go to tip them if you%26#39;ve spoken to them previously.

Phone calls to Vegas are not dear.Ring on Sat(allow time difference),have a list of restaurants and times and dates you want, and talk to the concierge at your hotel.

Have your hotel reservation number handy, and the concierge will know your name,e-mail address and dates of your stay on screen in front of her.

Ask for a confirmation e-mail,and hey presto its all done in 5 mins ,at a cost of less than 50 pence.

I have made them through Interval international, the hotel Conciar and by phone. Never had any problems. But if you want to have dinner at a great restaurant I would make them soon.

    Hi djmkone,

We have booked to stay at the TI %26amp; I would be interested to find out how you go on with the reservations etc. %26amp; any reccomendations you have when you get back. Our group consists of 2 couples in late 20%26#39;s.

Travelers- My mom, 50%26#39;s, me, 30. My mom, occasionally with her sister, and I take an annual Vegas trip every year, but missed out last year due to the craziness of planning of my wedding. Our M.O. is as follows; eat, shop, see a show, repeat. My mom rarely drinks alcohol due to migraines, I like to embibe but I%26#39;m expecting my first baby in November. My mom likes to play the Wheel of Fortunte slot machines until the cigarette smoke hurts her eyes, which is usually 20 minutes maximum. I was staying away from the gambling areas this trip. This trip was all about my mom... whatever she wanted, I wanted her to have. My mom rarely gets to travel and I wanted her to have a blast. We travleled on 6/27-28.

Traveling- Terrible. The worst. My poor mom got SO sick from the wild ride on the way down into Las Vegas that she was ill the rest of the day and most of the evening. :( As soon as I got her off the plane I hoped she would feel better, but the overpowering smell of Cinnabon in the airport made her feel worse. Fortunately, our luggage was waiting for us right away and there was no wait for a taxi. On our return, our flight was about 20 minutes late, and the gate agent kept asking for volunteers to travel at a later time because they were only going to allow 27 people instead of 30 onto the plane for ';balance'; due to the high heat. My mom was already nervous given her bad experience on the flight over, so I loaded her up with Dramamine and she did perfectly. Both flights were blissfully free of passenger noise and disturbances. I will say that security personnel in Vegas are the most rude I%26#39;ve encountered. The ';rules'; seem to change based on the person you deal with, for example a man was yelled at because he put his shoes inside the plastic bin instead of outside, which I had never known was a rule (and wonder if it even is). I%26#39;m very protective of my mom so I try to be very alert and get her organized and taken care so she won%26#39;t be hassled... if she had been yelled at like that I would%26#39;ve come unglued and likely thown out.

Venetian-- This was our first time staying here, as we typically stay at Paris. From the airport, it was just shy of $14 for the fare. The check-in line was not very long at 1pm. I asked if we could stay in one of the upgraded rooms, and I was told yes, for $45 extra a night. I declined, and was sent to the Venezia tower and was put in a location away from any construction noise per my request. I%26#39;m not sure if it was because of my request, but I kid you not, it was at LEAST a 10 minute walk to our room from the front desk. Excellent signage made it fairly easy to find, and by the time we checked out, we could navigate quite well.

My mom and I were blown away by the size of our room, which was a bella suite (2 queen beds). True, a lot of people moan about how shabby and old the rooms are, but we were not at all dissapointed. Though my bathroom at home is bigger, bathing in the midst of the gold and marble was pure heaven. The bathroom was amply stocked-- excellent soaps, etc., two terry robes, huge shower with two extra jets that my mom really appreciated. With the exception of the notepad being scribbled on from a former guest, and the guest directory book that was outdated and written on that should%26#39;ve been replaced, housekeeping was perfect. When we returned to our rooms in the late afternoon, the room was sparkling clean. At night when we returned, we had turn-down service and a generous-sized chocolate waiting for us, and we noticed that all of our towles and glasses had been replaced again. The beds were very comfortable, and there was an extra pillow in the closet as well as a blanket.

The only that thing that irritated me about the room was the TV. It is in a low cabinet so it is hard to watch tv from bed, and the channels were snowy and very limited. There was an abundance of foreign-language channels that came in clear as a bell, however. I know I could%26#39;ve paid more for a superior TV experience, but I was not in Vegas to watch TV!

I love the Venetian decor... it was really amazing. My mom and I had to stop out of the way of foot traffic a few times to gawk at the ceiling. Everything from the light fixtures to the art was stunning. We went to the shops in the square and weren%26#39;t terribly excited about them... its fun to look around, but none of the stores appealed to us. I was admiring a sketch of Elvis from one of the vendors when I noticed he had a sketch of the characters from the movie Tombstone, my brother%26#39;s favorite film (weird, why do so many guys love this movie?) and it was only $23 so my mom snapped it up as a gift for him. I think it should hang in his bathroom. :)

My mom was lucky in her gambling ventures this trip, particularly in the Venetian. I didn%26#39;t want to be in the casino near so much smoke (neither did she) but early in the morning before breakfast the casino was totally dead so I agreed to walk through it quickly while she played. As luck would have it, her first ';pull'; gave her the chance to spin the wheel, and I must say, I LOVED watching her face light up as she chanted along with the machine, ';WHEEL.... OF.... FORRRRRRTUNE!'; I think she landed on 250, so I insisted she cash out (I%26#39;m really cheap with gambling). She was as happy as a clam.

In general, I was really, really happy with my stay at The Venetian. I would like to note a couple of things for travelers: the staff is VERY nice and professional. Every staff member we passed made sure to greet us and say hello. We never got lost because there was always someone nearby who was more than eager to help us. The room-service person I spoke to on the phone was SO gracious and polite, and the woman who brought our food was equally as nice (the food was hot and tasty, too!). I was worried about the flowery smell many people complain about on this board. As I mentioned, my mom was sick from the plane, and strong smells set off both of our migraines. Neither of us noticed any kind of flowery, perfumey smell... I%26#39;m not saying it doesn%26#39;t exist, but we did not have any issues with it at all. I will definately stay here again.

    Food-

*** I had planned to surprise my mom with Mon Ami Gabi on the day of our arrival before seeing Celine, but we spent a lot of itme in the room resting because she was ill, and her stomach couldn%26#39;t handle rich food, so I called and cancelled our reservation. :( I was bummed, but again, this was my mom%26#39;s trip, so I didn%26#39;t really mind.

Grand Lux Cafe- We ate here twice, and the service was the polar opposite for each. The day of our arrival we ate here for a late lunch. It is our tradition to have a club sandwich when we travel to get our stomachs adjusted to eating at odd hours and overindulging. Our server was friendly, attentive, and our food appeared so quickly it was like magic. It was very standard, but that%26#39;s what we wanted. The day of our departure we ate here for breakfast. Sllllooooooow, annoying service! Our server took forever to show up to get our drink over, then we waited forever for him to come back with our coffee/tea, and then our food took a while too but it wasn%26#39;t overly long. My mom had the brioche French toast and I had a bagel and hashbrowns. My mom commented that her food was hot, tasty, and superior to her breakfast at Bellagio. The indifferent service got the server an indifferent tip, as I noticed he was happily attending another table of men that he was joking around with. Though they may be a sister restaurant with The Cheesecake Factory, there is no comparison in my mind.

Bellagio Cafe (not sure of the name)- This is a Vegas tradition. My mom loves flowers so we always eat breakfast at their ';coffee shop'; so she can admire the decor. The theme was some kind of state fair... with a ferris wheel and ';cold'; air balloons. The flowers were truly amazing, and I got some great pictures. Anyway, we were seated immediately (a first at this place) but the service was slow. We waited a long time for our coffee/tea to arrive, and even longer for our food. My mom had French toast (her favorite) with berries and I had a side of fruit and an English muffin. Everything was very good and our server was very nice. We like the ambiance there for some reason, though the food is typically okay and the menu is a tad limited.

The forum shops at Caesar%26#39;s-- Okay, had to mention this... Mom and I wanted a little treat before we saw Celine, so we stopped at a gelato place that also sold hot dogs, etc. We tasted the ice cream before we bought it, and it was good, BUT GOOD LORD, $11.50 for two TINY little plastic cups... I mean DIXIE cup size! My face must%26#39;ve tipped off the cashier to my shock because she looked at me and tried to reassure me that the price was correct. RIP-OFF.

Delmonico%26#39;s-- We had reservations at 5pm before seeing Phantom. We were seated and our server took our drink orders-- we started out with water thinking we%26#39;d order something else later, we didn%26#39;t. My mom wanted to try the Caesar salad for two, so I agreed, though raw garlic is not something I enjoy. Our server made the salad for us and talked a little bit about what he was using for the dressing. It was very, very good salad. My mom and I both ordered the shrimp/chicken linguine. It was rich, tasty, and filled with lots of succulent pieces of shrimp. It also had sundried tomatoes which are a pregnancy favorite of mine. Although it was good, we could not finish but 1/2 of our plates. The richness of the sauce made ordering dessert out of the question. Two entrees and two salads came to about $100 not including tip. Pricey, but we were okay with it. The service was attentive, calm, not pushy, not hovering, just the way I like. Though I liked this restaurant, I don%26#39;t think I will return considering the other choices in Vegas. We did notice that as we left, the restaurant was very full, but the neighboring restaurants (B%26amp;B, David Burke, and Valentino%26#39;s) were very empty. Perhaps because it was Thursday and only 6:30pm.

Celine-- I%26#39;m not a fan of Celine%26#39;s, but I%26#39;m not nauseated by her, either. I think her voice is outstanding, and I%26#39;m a sucker for some of those indulgent, cheesy ballads that she sings. My mom likes Celine, and many of her friends had seen her show, so she said she%26#39;d like to go before her show ends in December. I bought tickets in the rear orchestra, which were centrally located and provided an excellent view. The theater was packed. Celine%26#39;s show was quite good-- her voice is perfect and she sang almost every song that hit the radio, including a couple of French numbers (yawn) and two or three that were unknown to me and bit dreary, in my opinion. Celine really sings her butt off from start to finish (maybe literally, she%26#39;s like a size zero) and talks very little-- she pauses only to thank the audience several times for their enthusiasm, which was very gracious, I thought. The theater is very nice, and we had seen Gloria Estefan there a few years back when Celine was on vacation. We had seats MUCH further back that time and were still able to see quite well. It was a very enjoyable evening, and most importantly, my mom had fun.

Phantom of the Opera- This was the highlight of our trip. My mom and I had both seen Phantom in San Francisco (my mom once, myself twice) about 8 years ago. My mom LOVES the movie. The main thing she wanted to do in Vegas was see this show, so I got the best tickets I could find. I was so pleased with our seats-- so many people recommended ';cheaper'; seats for a better view, but I couldn%26#39;t disagree more. We sat in row L, which was close and directly beneath the chandelier-- for those that are familiar with this show, you can imagine the thrill of sitting directly beneath the chandelier, wow! The show started promptly at 7pm and went full-force into the story. The performers were SO good... I was amazed. The Phantom really stole the show, and rightly so. His voice and acting was so moving and so superb. There were ';fireworks'; thrown in for added effect, which was exciting, and the pace was fast so it never lagged. I will say that this show was superior to anything I have seen in NY on Broadway, it was THAT good. Maybe it was my pregnancy hormones, but when the Phantom cried, *I* cried. My mom tried not to laugh (I%26#39;m so not a softie) and handed me Kleenex. We both loved it. My mom took her Wheel of Fortune winnings and bought a really pretty music box from the boutique that depicts the Phantom and Christine on the gondola.

Shopping- Woah, did we SHOP. Or at least my mom did. We always liked the shops at Aladdin so we went back, and its now called the Miracle Mile. I%26#39;m not sure what%26#39;s so miraculous... they haven%26#39;t finished refurbishing it yet, and it was very apparent. The shops were the same. My mom loves the Dept. 56 store so it was worth it for her. What really blew us away was how much the Fashion Show mall had changed since our last visit. So many new stores, and it looks like it had a major face lift. We wished we had skipped the Miracle Mile and went straight to Fashion Show. I was happy to find the ABC store where I found big bottles of water for $.99 and my mom found some much needed Dramamine for the ride home. I%26#39;ll remember that place for next time.

Taxis- Because of the heat and my mom%26#39;s sensitivity to it, and the fact that I%26#39;m pregnant, we decided we would take cabs everywhere. My mom and I are geographically challenged, so even with a map we%26#39;re pretty clueless about where everything is. We took a cab to Bellagio and walked accross the street to Planet Hollywood which was no big deal. But leaving Planet Hollywood we weren%26#39;t on the side where you can catch a cab, I guess, so we started walking towards the Venetian. While it wasn%26#39;t TOO far, the heat was in full force and the sidewalks were totally packed with people at 11:30am. We dropped off our packages and limped back to the taxi line and asked to be taken to the Fashion Show Mall. The driver was really shocked and informed us (in an arrogant way) that it was directly accross the street. I ignored him and got out of the cab, and the taxi attendant told us that if we wanted a ride we could have one, but I didn%26#39;t want to go anywhere with a driver who felt he was doing us a favor, even if he was right (we always tip well, anyway). So I asked him for directions and he pointed us in the direction of the mall so we walked it. Mistake. I was so hot and tired by the time we got there I had to take another break with ice water and some nachos. :) Poor me. Anyway, all of our cab rides were quick and well worth it. Our return trip to the airport was fast and the fare was about $13.

Nice trip report sounds like you and your Mom had a blast. I think that is great. Only 3 sleeps unitl my trip!!

    Good Luck All!!!

    Bump

Thanks Hotbeef! We did have a blast, and I hope you do as well.

What a great trip! Sounds like you had fun with your mom, but too bad she got sick. You really packed a lot into 2 days. BTW the cab driver was a Jerk!! I%26#39;ll be going with my daughter in about 3 weeks, can%26#39;t wait! Thank you for taking the time to write a trip report.

Juwel, thank you, and have a blast with your daughter. It truly is a blessing to have my mom with me on these fun trips. Yes, it was a blast to go to Vegas with my friends when I was single, but there%26#39;s something to be said about a good ol%26#39; G-rated trip with your mom. :)

Hi Tina! Just a quick note to say how much I enjoyed your report, and that every mother should have a daughter like you!!!

I just saw your last installment to your TR.

Okay, I%26#39;ll just have to read someone else%26#39;s tomorrow morning with my coffee.

You are an AMAZING daughter. I bet your mom is already talking of her return trip with you. Just like you, I also made sure my mother had the time of her life. Just makes you feel good inside. It%26#39;s called a mitzvah ! You are definately going to heaven now !

Thank you so much for taking the time to write.

None that I know of, but there%26#39;s a thread just a line or two below yours that you might find interesting:

    Grocery stores near The Signature?

    Dammit ST!

Yes, Doc, you did all the research and all I had to do was provide the link, lol. Happy 4th everybody on this side of the pond!

(DrVegas and StripCruiser: Those kind of ';off-topic quips'; are what makes this forum less useable for visitors looking for real information. It makes it hard to know what%26#39;s helpful, and also makes the whole LV forum appear rather ';goofy.'; Many threads are filled up with such quips, and not all from trolls but from people who do make good contributions such as yourselves.)

Oceanscape: an excellent resource for finding businesses near a destination is Yahoo Maps. You put in the address of the hotel (145 E Harmon Ave), and Yahoo has some links at the left to look at business nearby, under the link Community Services you will find Grocery Stores. There is a Von%26#39;s (big grocery store by Safeway), 7-Eleven and another convenience store within a few blocks.

The grocery delivery service referenced above may not be able to deliver to a hotel. You would probably need to call them and ask.

    Sorry sir.

I was wondering though, if Domino%26#39;s can deliver to a hotel why couldn%26#39;t Von%26#39;s? What about flowers, cadies and other gifts? The link is even more relevent since the MGM Signature is a ';mixed use'; property, meaning it has condos within. Are the residents denied grocery delivery?

Again, I apologize for offending you or disrupting your day.

Just a little FYI, but the best rate guarantee that Vegas.com offers works well. I booked a room at the Fitz for a Saturday night for 63.00, but found it for $51.00 on Travelworm.com. So, I filled out the short form, and then Vegas.com credited my card back double the difference back in less than 24hrs! So, I ended up paying $38 for a room in Vegas on a Saturday night!!

    Grand Canyon rafting trips

Does anyone know of a good, not terribly expensive rafting trip for a father and son (50/21) that goes for a few days and does not have a lot of hiking? Thanks, litkikr@aol.com

    Grand Canyon rafting trips

There are 2 short rafting trips on the Colorado River accessible from LV. Hualapai River Runners offers a one-day experience, see: www.destinationgrandcanyon.com

That trip requires either driving to Peach Springs in AZ (about 2.5 hours from LV, all paved, easy driving) or buying a tour package which includes air or heli travel.

There are also several sources of a 3-day rafting trip which begins with an air flight from LV or Boulder City to the Bar Ten Ranch near the Grand Canyon.

    Here is an example:

There are other tour companies providing the same trip. Try to deal with the actual tour provider and not a tour agency.

    Trip Report Part 2

Trip Report June 26th through July 1, Part 2

    Trip Report Part 2

Thursday, got up and immediately regretted dousing my common sense voice with alcohol the night before. Walked down to the casino to go to the buffet. It was $4.99 and perhaps the best value I鈥檇 get all trip. Bacon, sausage, eggs, ham, fresh fruit and a good selection of pastries and beverages. After a couple of OJs and diet pepsi鈥檚 and a good helping of grease and fruit, we were sufficiently recovered to check out and head up to Wolf Creek golf course. This is an amazing course.

A little background. We aren鈥檛 the greatest golfers (around 10-12 handicaps) and my buddy (LD) has lived in Vegas and Tahoe and played a good number of courses in these areas and I鈥檝e played most of the courses in Oregon and a good number in Palm Springs and Vegas. This course has moved into my top three places to play! It moved right up there with 2 of the Bandon Dunes courses and Crosswater as my top four most amazing golf courses to play. I don鈥檛 really know how to describe it. It reminded me of those golf calendars with the fake courses put in places like the Grand Canyon. Lots of forced carries and huge elevation changes.

A few comments about the course鈥 round takes about 5 hours on a good day so make sure you schedule at least that much time if you play. The cart path is incredibly hilly which is almost an adventure just in itself. Course plays very fair but penalizing meaning that if you hit good shots you鈥檙e rewarded with pretty good scores and if you hit poor shots, don鈥檛 bother looking for your ball. It often gets windy later in the day here and the last 4 or 5 holes play directly into the wind. If you don鈥檛 like forced carries of 180+ yards directly into 20mph winds, play early. It was 111 degrees when we finished and once again the heat wasn鈥檛 an issue. Yes it was hot. One thing I was concerned about is that up here in Portland, on hot days I sweat and my hands get sweaty 鈥?which makes it a little tough to hang onto a club as I don鈥檛 wear a golf glove. Didn鈥檛 have any issues with that down there.

Cost of the trip 鈥?We did a golf package through Eureka Hotel/Casino and it was $151 per person for green fees on two courses and the hotel room. A great deal and we鈥檙e planning on coming back next summer to repeat the experience 鈥?maybe sans straight shots.

Got done with golf and now my Vegas trip was about to begin. LD dropped me off at the Flamingo and I went to check in. They had a Gold check-in line that was not crowded at all (the main check-in line was quite long) so that鈥檚 where I headed. Got up to the counter and asked for an upgrade (no $20 in sight!) and was offered the GO room for $40 a night. Said no thanks and was given a crappy room on the 5th floor about 20 miles from the elevator. It was clean enough although there was a lovely red stain (daiquiri colored 鈥?not blood) on the carpet. We had a panoramic view of the parking structure across the street. Very nice.

My friend CJ was flying in sometime tonight and my plan was to meet my pseudo girlfriend Angel (who coincidently (she says) booked Thursday and Friday night at Paris for this same weekend) at the Tequila Bar (my traditional Welcome to Vegas bar) for some happy hour beer/shot combos and some of that glorious fruit-infused Patron before CJ gets here. Then I get the phone call. It鈥檚 CJ telling me that his friend (who I鈥檝e never met) is coming down and staying with us for the entire time. Who does that? Now we have 3 dudes sharing a room and worse than that, one bathroom 鈥?which is a problem for completely different reasons that the prep time to get ready to go out for the night. I鈥檓 pissed. I mean we aren鈥檛 in freaking college anymore and have no reason whatsoever to save a few bucks by cramming people into a room. He senses that I鈥檓 about to have a temper-tantrum and says that he鈥檒l pay for two thirds of the room cost and sleep on the floor the entire time. As if that wasn鈥檛 a given already. Oh well. I鈥檓 on vacation right? RELAX!

Go down to the Tequila Bar to meet Angel (yes 鈥?that鈥檚 really her name and no she doesn鈥檛 swing around poles or hang out on street corners) and it鈥檚 as great as ever. We talk and I find out she鈥檚 not only staying at Paris (far, far nicer than Flamingo) but she upgraded herself to a suite. I tell her we have three dudes staying in a shoe box. She says that I should stay with her but I decline saying that this is supposed to be a guys trip and I鈥檇 feel guilty dogging out on my boys. So we wander up to Margaritaville for some nachos, wings and of course margaritas. Stopped in the high limit rooms at Bally鈥檚 and lost $200 on $5 slots. Stopped at Flamingo HLR and threw another $100 in and hit for 70 credits! Woohoo 鈥?I finally won something. Cash out for $350 and on we go.

Walked through the slum casinos (my favs) and played a little BJ and more random slots. Nothing exciting on the win side of things. CJ finally called around midnight so I walked Angel back to Paris and left to meet tweedle-dee and tweedle-dum. Met up with CJ and friend (we鈥檒l call him STD since I don鈥檛 remember his name and I wasn鈥檛 really happy about having him with me) We played some BJ at Bill鈥檚 and then headed back to Flamingo for a reasonably early night (around 2:30a) because I was playing basketball with another friend (JG) who lives down there and STD was entered into the WSOP tournament at the Rio.

Long night of listening to two fat guys saw logs so loud my earplugs went deaf.

Next boring report 鈥?Hoops, losing, buffets and suite experience.

Trip Report June 26th through July 1, Part 2

great TR -- Can%26#39;t wait for part 3!

Just wondering though, why do you call her your pseudo gf?

This is so funny I nearly weed myself!!

    Kepp up the good work

    Regarding the Psuedo-Girlfriend label-

We%26#39;ve only recently started dating and I don%26#39;t consider us really exclusive - yet. But it seems like we%26#39;re heading in that direction.

lol, that you felt like you had to defend Angel%26#39;s name.

I agree, if it%26#39;s a trip with 2 guys, ask first if you an add a third....

and your names crack me up, After the first part, I thought of naming one person I know PMS, but after your STD, that would be like stealing your style....

    Keep it going...

(we鈥檒l call him STD since I don鈥檛 remember his name and I wasn鈥檛 really happy about having him with me)

    ROFLMAO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! That%26#39;s a good one!! =)

Waiting for part 3....wondering if you abandon the boys for the comforts of the suite with your pseudo girlfriend!!

I would have let the boys stay at flamingo and took pseudo up on her offer.

Once your friend told you he aquired an STD and was bringing him along, you would not have been wrong to take Angel up on her offer. I believe you would have been justified under Man Law 6 chapter 4 para 7 subsection b.

Trip sound pretty good so far, looking forward to more.

    trifecta,

You should of opted for Angel.

    zbethg

trifecta, so you rank Wolf Creek w/ 2 Bandon courses? PD and BD I imagine? I don%26#39;t know if I%26#39;d go that far. Bandon Dunes maybe, but Pacific is a world to itself. Hopefully you can play Cascata some day to compare desert courses. Good report. Good luck w/ Angel.

I know that this is not a Vegas question but I thought that some people on here might be able to answer my questions.

    TR Points question for Canadians

    Jack/ Doc Harrahs

What%26#39;s the law in Ont.? Can they serve free alcohol or are we talking free anything?

BTW, I thought Windsor was in the States. lol

You are right, this has nothing to do with Vegas.

    TR Points question for Canadians

No free alcohol here in Ontario Doc. We have to pay for our drinks while gambling and no smoking either.

  • Slumming it.

I was going to LV alone next week, but my buddy is meeting me there. He%26#39;s never been downtown, so we%26#39;re planning on visiting. We really want to slum it a bit since we%26#39;ve both been to LV with our wives and went a bit higher class (stayed at Bellagio %26amp; Luxor).

We%26#39;re planning on walking from the FSE to El Cortez. Is it worth stopping at the Western simply for the experience? It%26#39;ll be daytime.

Any other places in walking distance of downtown or the Strip worth visiting to slum it for an afternoon?

    Thanks!!

    Slumming it.

FYI. Staying at Harrahs. Aware of Slots A Fun and Casino Royale.

    Slumming it.

You might as well hit Frontier and slum it up there for a while as they close for good on the 15Th of this month.

    jaspa wrote: ';Any other places in walking distance of downtown or the Strip worth visiting to slum it for an afternoon?';

    E. Fremont Street is hardly ';slumming it'; anymore. You need to walk NORTH on Las Vegas Blvd. across the freeway to those casinos if want to check out the REAL slums.

Booking Rental Car - How Far in Advance?

I want to wait for deals - my husband wants to book it before all the cars on the planet disappear for the dates we%26#39;re going ;) When should you book them to insure a good deal and availability? Our trip is Sept 23-30, 2007. Thanks!!

Booking Rental Car - How Far in Advance?

You can book anytime and if you find a better deal close to your arrival you can cancel your reservation and book the better rate. I%26#39;m going about the same time as you and I will probably book my car through hotwire.com mid next month if I don%26#39;t find anything cheaper. Hotwire.com has had the best rates I can find so far. Full size cars going for 155 for the week. They only use the top 5 rental agencies so you won%26#39;t get stuck with some sub par company you never heard of. Good luck

Booking Rental Car - How Far in Advance?

FYI. That 155 includes all taxes and fees.

This is what I get when I put it through for Sept 23-30 and it says there is no refund or cancel option:

Your total cost: $184.01 (Including applicable tax-recovery charges and fees)

You have selected a Hotwire Discount Rate rental:

You%26#39;ll always get a car from a major car-rental agency: Alamo, Avis, Budget, Hertz or National. Once you make your booking, we immediately complete your reservation and show you the rental agency details.

Your account will be charged at the time of booking for the full rental amount, including all tax recovery charges and fees.

All bookings are final. You cannot get a refund or change this reservation once your booking is complete.

You will have the option to purchase insurance and add additional drivers to your contract at the rental counter for an additional charge.

    Includes unlimited mileage.

yes. hotwire don%26#39;t give refund if you cancel the reservation later. it acts like travel agency out there. Once you give your CC # and complete reservation process, you will be charged and NO REFUND or No Change allowed.

I usually use the Orbitz website. It gives a clear listing of what all car companies are charging. Then go directly to the companies website and book directly through them. That way you can reserve with no credit card and cancel quick and easily too. I just booked my car a couple of days ago (am leaving tomorrow) and got a weekend rate of $19 for a full size car (dodge charger). I am very happy with that, 3 day rental all taxes $85. Weekly rates are less. This way if a better deal comes around you can easily cancel your previous reservation.

    Good luck!

I paid $122 for a full-size the week we were there in June and booked it back in February.

As we missed out last time eating at Rosemarys, we have decided that we would like to eat there this trip.

Does anyone know roughly how much a taxi is from the Paris hotel to Rosemarys restaurant?

  • Lounge Acts Like....

Are there any lounge acts like Purple Reign that we can see in November? We will be there for a long weekend and will unfortunately miss PR. It is such a fun show that I was wondering what other acts might appeal to the same type of crowd.

I had fun at Big Elvis the last trip but I think it tends to draw an older crowd.

    Lounge Acts Like....

    Bump

    * if this is the only lounge act like this, Monte Carlo should be charging more :)

    Lounge Acts Like....

Murph and the Magictones ? I think they are at the Surf Buffet at the Boardwalk.

Cute Blues Brothers reference but it doesn%26#39; t help much!

You say you%26#39;re in LV for a long weekend. Are you aware that Purple Reign is at House of Blues (Mandalay Bay) on Sunday nights? Unlike the Monte Carlo shows there is a cover charge ($10) but you sound like you%26#39;re big fans and wouldn%26#39;t mind paying anyway.

Thank you blagger! I was not aware they played Sunday nights. Since that is my birthday and we are big fans of Prince the $10 cover is not a big deal. My friend will be thrilled as we thought we would miss this great cover act.

See if you can apply it to the Tournament of Kings Dinner show.... at least the show is fun =) (Dinner%26#39;s tastey, just small for big eaters like me!)

A good idea from Lowrance. Dining options at Excalibur aren%26#39;t too great, though there%26#39;s a new chain place called D*ck%26#39;s Last Resort there now which is supposed to be fun.

The name of the dining choice is D1ck, substitute ';i'; for one. TA would not let him post the correct term beause to some it%26#39;s profanity. But it%26#39;s the actual name of the restaurant.

I was there 2 weeks ago. There were two different dining coupons to be used during your stay. I can%26#39;t remember the two restaurants (not the buffet) but there was a $10 discount at one place and a $15 discount at another. I didn%26#39;t use either. I was disappointed as I expected $25 to used for dining anywhere at the Excalibur. Hope this helps you with your plans.

what a great idea. didn%26#39;t know that service was available in LV and to a hotel room. we%26#39;re staying at Signature with stove, microwave, toaster, etc. nice to know we can have our food delivered rather than haul it there with us. thanks!

Anyone use grocery delivery to your hotel?

Thanks for responding. If you go to Safeway.com to sign up for an account there%26#39;s a promo code for your first delivery FREE! Have fun in Vegas we always dooooooooo. GUIDEE

Not planning on getting groceries on my next trip but the info is nice to know. I never even heard of this. Thanx.

    Excellent idea guidee.

I nominate this thread for most original and most informative!

This sounds like a great idea in theory but have you spoken to the Mirage to check that they allow this?

I%26#39;m certain they wouldn%26#39;t allow a delivery van to drop off at the main entrance and I would imagine the staff at the deliveries entrance at the rear of the property are busy enough without having to deal with guests personal grocery deliveries. That%26#39;s if they%26#39;ll even allow the van access there.

I see your point Blagger and did consider those possibilities but then, why couldn%26#39;t the driver simply self park and then be treated just like any other visitor a hotel guest may have? For that matter, who%26#39;s to stop guidee from meeting the driver in the lobby or even the parking lot?

I realize MGM/ Mirage properties are run like a Police State (personal experience), but what are they going to do about it?

Good points DrV. I must admit that the delivery guy self parking hadn%26#39;t entered my head and it makes total sense.

That option would also cost the supermarket a lot of money due to the time the guy would be there if he had to park in the parking garage and then haul the stuff into the casino and wait for the hotel guest to come downstairs to get the goods. The store would be losing money. There%26#39;s the guys salary plus cost of delivery vehicle etc.

Not to argue Ms Gabby dear, but how is it any different than the delivery going to a private apartment where they have to find the building, park, unload, find the individual apartment and then wait for the customer to answer the door?

The website states that the minimum order is $50 for all deliverys and only the first one is free for new customers, all orders after that have a minimum charge of $4.95 or roughly 10% + tip of course.

Their cafe has very good food at reasonable prices. They have a huge chicken fried steak that is great. Breakfast is always good. They also have specials that they run, I beleive from midnight to 6AM . I think it is defenitely worth tyring them out. GOOD LUCK!

  • Suggestion for Honeymoon Hotel

Hi,I%26#39;m planning on my first visit to Las Vegas end of May 2005. It will be my honeymoon and I%26#39;m absolutely confused about which hotel to pick. My requirements are :-1. Reasonable price (not cheap but also not the Bellagio Suites)2. Fairly Central Location.3. Preferably somwhere that can guarentee a non smoking room. Any suggestions greatfully received.Any other useful sites or ideas also greatfully received. Thanks in advance.

    Suggestion for Honeymoon Hotel

Hi, If you can get a good rate, I would recommend the Bellagio! We%26#39;ve stayed there and loved it! Very romantic, especially if you get a Fountain View room. Venetian is another place that is very nice. I also like Mirage and we%26#39;re staying in Treasure Island this Dec. All of these hotels have great locations. Mandalay Bay is also first class, and has the best pool in Vegas, but is at the end of the strip. Still a gorgeous hotel. Have not stayed at Caesar%26#39;s Palace but this is always a Las Vegas classic. Usually, Las Vegas hotels are cheaper mid-week, and then goes up on Fridays and Saturdays, so it%26#39;s something you might want to consider when it comes to price. Also, when you book. ask and make sure you are guaranteed a non-smoking room. We%26#39;ve never had any problems getting a non-smoking room. Also, mention that you are honeymooners, and they might do something nice for you also.

    Suggestion for Honeymoon Hotel

I agree with the previous poster...Bellagio, Venetian, Mandalay Bay, Mirage are all great. Personally, for a special honeymoon, I would go with Caesar%26#39;s Palace. In my opinion, it has the best pool area in LV, even better than Mandalay Bay. It also has the #1 location, smack in the center of the strip (right next to Bellagio). If Caesar%26#39;s or Bellagio are too expensive but you want the great location, go across the street to Flamingo. Same ideal location, less expensive, but still nice...definitely not a dump. Good luck!

Thank you both for your help.

I%26#39;ll give some of the hotels mentioned a call see what I can work out. I%26#39;ve already checked out there websites.

    Can%26#39;t wait :o)

    Thanks again

    Martin

I got married at Treasure Island, and would recommend checking their web page for a good deal. Fantastic service and ameneties. Their pool is small, but they have just updated it. A good thing about a small pool are is less people. The location can%26#39;t be beat either. 6 stays and never a complaint.

The Mirage is another good choice, and right next to TI.

Both TI and Mirage have reasonable to fancy places to eat, and the quality of the food is consistently good. Another point, they have the best location to go out and find cheaper tables, as Harrah%26#39;s, Imperial Palace, Barbary Coast and Casino Royale are close by. And still walking distance to Bellagio, Paris, Aladdin, Ceasar%26#39;s, etc. I think your best shot for a truly nice place to stay, from service to food, at a good rate, would be one of these two casinos.

I have seen rooms at Bellagio for as low as $130 a night, but never less. If you were to splurge, I%26#39;d say do it there. It really does have wonderful service, and it is not huge like the Venetian or Ceasars. It has a more intimate feel.

Ceasars is, well, Ceasars. Expensive, wonderful, etc, etc.

Mandalay Bay does have a nice (crowded) pool area, but I feel the restaurant choices are limited if you are on any kind of budget. I find even the coffee shop to be limited and expensive. They are at the end/begining of the strip, so it is a bit of an ordeal to get anywhere, meaning it gets old after a while. It is my least favorite hotel. It trys hard to be in the league with Bellagio and Ceasars, but it falls short. It gets lots of convention traffic, and just seems like a big rip off.

Aladdin is very big, and the casino is very noisy--it%26#39;s a zoo. Don%26#39;t like it there either (but, good restaurants and the shopping is good too). Luxor seems empty--have stayed twice. I had a very bad stay at the Flamingo (long lines and bad service). MGM is just huge and the cheapest rooms are awful--spend your money somewhere else. NYNY is fun to look at, but seems to be overpriced all the time.

Some friends had a good stay at Harrah%26#39;s. And also at Bally%26#39;s. Paris gets lots of convention folk, and I%26#39;ve found the food to be inconsistent here, and the service as well.

I have family from abroad, they have stayed in Imperial Palace when they would come for 10 days or more. It is a dump. BUT the rooms are dirt cheap (they paid $40 night), and it has a prime location. But, it%26#39;s a dump.

Monte Carlo is large, but it never seems crowded. There is a wave pool, a river pool and a regular, freeform pool. A fast food court, as well as decent restraunts. I%26#39;d only choose here if it was a considerable savings over TI, Mirage. Not nearly as nice, so I would have to compensate with a large savings.

    Good Luck!

One more thing...I don%26#39;t think you will find anywhere that will %26#39;guarntee%26#39; you a non-smoking room. You can book it, and request it, but a hotel here can always fall back on the fact that it is %26#39;on request%26#39;. You can request when you book, again when you confirm. And when you check in, ask again. The hotels in Vegas are large, and most likley your request will be granted (I always request N/S and get it).

My husband and I spent our honeymoon at Treasure Island and booked the whole

vacation at www.expedia.com The Vacation Package is the best way to go.

You can book your air, hotel, limo, car rental everything here together and they

will give you one total price. No separate booking and you save money in the

long run. We stayed there 3 years ago and decided to say in one of the Suites.

We stayed in the Executive Suite which is amazing!! The suite is done in gold

and cream colors and two bathrooms. My bathroom was one in marble with

a makeup mirror and the largest jacuzzi tub I have ever seen. We both fit

in the jacuzzi easily and we are not small people. The other bathroom had

a telephone and marble with a sit-down shower. Two televison in the suite.

One is a pop up televison that you press the remote and the tv comes up

from this chest so you can watch while in bed. The bed is surrounded by

mirrors and lovely. Floor to ceiling windows with a great view. A bose radio

and much more. Go to www.treasureisland.com and click on rooms and suites.

There is a large picture of the Executive Suite and it is amazing. Every evening

we found candy on our bed and a note saying sweet dreams. Everyone was

nice and helpful. They offer a car rental here at the hotel also. The pool is ok

but this place is wonderful. They have a Tram that you can ride on that takes

you next door to the Mirage and next to that is Caesars Palace. They also

have a Spa which is wonderful the Mud Bath is so relaxing. We stayed here

for 5 nights and the total for our whole package was 1,500. They might have

raised it not sure but this place is amazing and the suites are grand!!

My husband and I had our honeymoon at the Luxor, they are very reasonable and quite a romantic and enchanting resort to stay at. We have had the jacuzzi suite and the jr 1 bedroom suite. Never been dissapointed w/ the suites. Great nightlife and fine dining choices. Best rates are w/ the hotels website.

I am going on my honeymoon in Vegas on November 15th, we were looking for the same type of hotel, and we came up with New York,New York....they have remodeled rooms with gauranteed KING size beds( which has been hard to get...the guarantee..)and a flat screen tv, marble bathrooms...for about $129 a night....so we%26#39;ll see...Everyone I%26#39;ve spoken to that%26#39;s been there says it%26#39;s really nice....Hope that helps...:-)

    xtina,

We just stayed at NYNY 2 weeks ago. This is our third time staying at NYNY. The Hotel is wonderful, the employees are very friendly and helpful. Just a little advice. Request a room off of the New Yorker elevator. This elevator is off by itself and less crowded than the centrally located Century elevator. Also, request a room close to the elevator. Some of the rooms are a very, very long walk from the elevator.

We had a king suite w/jacuzzi. It is a very nice room. For some reason though, they have placed all dim lightbulbs in their light fixtures. Its OK unless you like to read. It makes the room seem dark. Since it is your honeymoon, you may want to let them know that and maybe you can upgrade to a large suite. We had a large suite last year and it was *wonderful*. Very spacious, bright and had everything from a kitchen area, to living area with wrap around couch, bedroom and a huge bath w/jacuzzi.

Anyway, have a great time. NYNY is in a super location, right across from MGM, Excalibur, Luxor and next to the Monte Carlo.

Did you enjoy the show at Caesars?

    Elton John

    anyone?

    Elton John

    Hi all,

I went to see Elton earlier this year for Valentine%26#39;s weekend. I really enjoyed the show, the but tickets we got were for $250 great seats! at the end of concert some of the first few rows got to go on stage and dance to last song. Worth every penny seeing and listening to Elton up close. You won%26#39;t regret spending $$ sings live too, no lip/sinking!

    Have fun!!

I have seen Elton John in concert twice and he was wonderful.

I have been to many concerts and I believe his is the best!

You get what you pay for also.

I%26#39;ve seen him several times but never in Vegas! Should be good I%26#39;m sure! Looking forward to it although we got the $100.00 seats!

I have booked to see him at Caesars after seeing him in concert in May in UK. Best concert i have been to, although I am sure the Caesars gig will be more amazing as better venue.

I am on honeymoon 3rd jan. is he on at this time.

    shows on in vegas

We spent our honeymoon in vegas and we loved the show we saw.

Treasure Island hotel and the show was Circus Chique which is know to be one of the top shows in vegas! The prices is around one hundred dollars a person but well worth it.

also check the web site www.lasvegas.com www.vegas.com or www.treasureisland.com

treasure island site shows a preview of the show

    good luck

Thanks for the info guys, just a quickie any idea of concerts, and typical costs. Also do u think if i phoned the luxor hotel and confirm it is our honeymoon we might be able to obtain a free upgrade. If so any idea of phone codes from the uk to vegas. thanks again

You should DEFINITLEY call the hotel NOT the 1800 RES Try their General number asked to be put through to the Front Desk Manager

My son phoned for my husband and I (a very special occasion)

He is extremly pushy and persistant and he spoke to a Manager

When I phoned to confirm they immediatally knew--- it was a very special occasion (they told me ) now I dont know if we will get an upgrade, but I do know he dealt a very amazing deal (price )

So my advise is phone and be really sweet and nice and persistant,Honeymoon,Travelling from England,1st Time in Vegas,Dream come true ,ect, ect, ect

    Good Luck

Hey, then make sure you confirm a little later, maybe get the future husband to phone as if its a surprise for you or even MUM or DAD or a GOOD friend be persistant

Here are a few concerts and show ideas

Blue Man Group- Luxor Hotel $69.30

    Wayne Newton- Stardust Hotel $60.45

    Lance Burton- Monte Carlo Hotel$66.50

    Mystere-Treasure Island Hotel $95.00

I found these shows and prices at www.vegas.com

Definitely, call the hotel directly and let them know that your are on your honeymoon! It%26#39;s not a guarantee, but from our own experiences, hotels usually do something special. We really liked the Cirque Du Soleil shows and have been to O and Mystere. O is a bit pricey compared to Mystere, about $125 for O. Even though bought shows were wonderful, I liked Mystere a little better. Have fun!

a bit cheeky i know but here goes. does anyone know the full phone number ringing from the uk to the luxor hotel. all codes etc would be appreciated.

We were just in London this past March and then Sweden this past summer, and when I called home, I believe the U.S. country code was 001-and then the areacode and 7 digit number. Luxor%26#39;s number is 1-888-777-0188. So it should be 001-888-777-0188. Hope that helps!

Also, just an fyi, London is ahead 8 hours of Las Vegas. And we%26#39;ll be moving our clocks back by 1 hour this Saturday night.

I%26#39;ll call the hotel and tell them its your honeymoon if you want :) Im pretty persistant and nice!

    LOL!

No Im serious, if you want me to, just email me at diordollxxx@yahoo.com

    Ciao!
