Price matching

We are reserved at the MC July 17 for 3 nights. I just received a promo from Luxor and called and asked if they do price matching since the hotel rate there is about $20 per night cheaper. The lady said not normally, but she will see what she can do. She came back on the phone and gave me $10 off PER night, so it brought my rate only $10 higher than what Luxor was giving. I figured it was worth a try, and I saved $30!

Price matching

You can surely see why hotels can%26#39;t price match. Taking things to the extreme you could have a reservation at Bellagio then call them when you%26#39;d had a promo from Excalibur to see what they could do.

Good that you saved $30 though. It never does any harm to ask.

Price matching

Once I called I figured that was a pretty dumb thing to ask....price matching!

Actually, Coast Casinos will match advertised prices for their properties. For instance, I found a great rate ($25) for Gold Coast on Travelocity, so I called reservations and they looked it up and booked it directly through them for the same price. GC advertised prize was $55 for the same dates.

You have a lot more negotiating power when the hotel is not full. You are going on a Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday in July so I am not surprised they accomodated you. You might also ask for a free upgrade when you check in and you might just get lucky and get one.

What do you say for a free upgrade....';can I have a free upgrade';? Do I give a reason why I want one, and not pay for one? I guess the worse that they can do is say no,right....or laugh at me when I walk away!

I think the consensus here is to simply ask politely, and if they are accomodating, you can give them a gratuity. I don%26#39;t think making up a story would be very comfortable for me, but to each his own. I%26#39;m sure they have heard it all before.

Even if they don%26#39;t give you a free upgrade outright, they may offer a discounted upgrade, say 30.00 per night versus 60.00 per night. It never hurts to ask nicely and to also know what they could reasonably upgrade you to. You can do a search but I think the most logical upgrade is to a pyramid spa suite.

I think I misread your post- you are staying at MC not Luxor. I think the next upgrade is to a Monaco suite but those are roughly 2x the cost of a standard room. It would be terrific as a free upgrade but might also worth paying for if they will offer a discounted cost to upgrade.

Both Monte Carlo and Luxor are owned by the Mandalay Bay Group. The reservationist may have greater latitude to ';price match'; another hotel also owned by her company. I would be very surprised to hear they matxched a rate from somebody like Bally%26#39;s, which is owned by Harrah%26#39;s.

Good for you making that phone call. I would never have thought to do so myself, only calling on rates found thru 3rd party reservation sites like Orbitz. You%26#39;re absolutely right, it can%26#39;t hurt to try!

You probaby already know this, but you should continue checking the hotel%26#39;s online rates daily until the day you arrive. Very often the prices go down, especially during the summer, and the casinos will always reduce your rate if you call.

The Mandalay Bay Group no longer exists. All of what were its hotels are now MGM Mirage properties.
