Every year I run a bus tour or two through the west. This year one of the tours ends in Vegas. We are staying at the Flamingo. I brought a group of 30 there last year, and this year I have another 35. I asked if they would upgrade my room to a GO room for bringing them two buses. But no such luck, my tour operator had to pay for the upgrade. Unless they are sold out August 2, which it does not look like they are, it strikes me as being a tad cheap. Would it really break them to upgrade one room out 18?

it%26#39;s my understanding that the harrahs properties have a ';no free upgrades'; policy that is pretty firm. did you talk to group booking? did you actually handle the reservations for the group or did they do it all individually?

Michael have you managed to get upgraded in Vegas previously when you%26#39;ve brought groups thru?
My own feeling about this is that 18 rooms might not even make a ripple on the surface of hotels who will have group bookings of hundreds of rooms at a time when a big convention is on.

Prior to last year, it had been several years since I brought a group to Vegas. The reservation was handled through group sales and all the rooms were booked at once. I realize that 18 rooms for a 3000 room hotel is not going to make their stock jump through the roof. It seems that many folks report getting free upgrades, even at Harrahs properties. I did not think it was an unreasonable expectation for someone bringing them $2,000 in business.
haha, I am a Vegas newb, but trust me....2000 in business would not even make an eye blink to anyone working at the Flamingo, let alone the person in charge of group sales. Now maybe if you were there for a week and wanted 18 rooms, then that may be different.

YES!
To be serious though, the only way to get a free upgrade into a GO room is to gamble for it. Harrah%26#39;s values its gamblers and they would consider it a waste to give a GO room in your situation when they can get someone to pay more per night for it or can recoup the difference in the casino. And there aren%26#39;t too many other places that will see it differently on the strip.

i happen to agree with you on this...they are acting cheap...
i would seriously consider booking elsewhere....and giving a call to a vp over at the flamingo to voice your dissatisfaction.
i%26#39;m just repeating what i remember reading elsewhere on the forum, but i think the no free upgrades policy at harrahs properties is fairly recent. if you are expecting special treatment for bringing in the buses, maybe look for it at an MGM property or something.
Is your original reservation for the 18 rooms discounted in any way? Do you have any gambling history here?
I think it never hurts to ask for freebies but I would never expect them, or be upset not to get them. Unless your gambling history warrants it, you take your chances. I%26#39;d just pay for the upgrade if you really want it - especially if it%26#39;s just the 1 night.
You need better friends, then they would all book go rooms too and you would be right there with them....
