Irish laptop in Las Vegas

Hi all, I am not very computer literate, however, I did book my entire trip over the internet, using my trusted laptop which I intend taking with me to ensure that any messages/updates etc. can get to me. Does anyone know what I need to bring apart from the laptop and power cable? Will an american adaptor do for the power or will I also need a connector. I don%26#39;t want to arrive there and discover that it was a waste of time because I haven%26#39;t the correct ';apparatus';.

Thanks all

Just a suggestion, but it might be easier to just go to the business center at the hotel you%26#39;re staying at and use their computers to access internet/e-mail. Yes, they charge for this, but you would also have to pay for internet access in your room. If you%26#39;re just going to do a quick check for e-mail or updates it might be easier to leave the laptop at home and use the business center.

Thanks COTravelfan,

This is a very good suggestion but won%26#39;t I need a hotmail address for this? If so, then I won%26#39;t have access to my home account (or will I), if not, and there are messages coming into my home email, I won%26#39;t get them. I know I could send all my confirmations etc. to my hotmail address so that would be good. I told you I was not computer literate.....I wasn%26#39;t lying.

Thanks for your help

dvcat,

It seems like you are trying to access your e-mail from a remote location. You should contact your ISP to inquire how to do this. You should not need to bring your laptop just to access your e-mail.

Most e-mails (hotmail or other) have an address that you can go to to check e-mail no matter where you are. For instance, i can type in a certain address and check my work e-mail if I %26#39;m not at work.

What e-mail are you using right now? It might be easiest to set up a hotmail account, and then e-mail yourself everything to that account. You will absolutely be able to access that from any computer in the US. Alternately...you could check with your e-mail provider to ask them for the address to type in if you want to access your e-mails from the states.

I%26#39;ve done business travel with a laptop and think it%26#39;s kind of a pain...that%26#39;s the only reason I am suggesting this. That way you don%26#39;t have to take out the laptop at the airport or worry about locking it in your room (some will fit in the in-room safes, others won%26#39;t), etc. I like to make life as easy as possible when I travel! =)

Just use the business service in the hotel.Google eircom, indigo or whoever you use and away you go.

Thanks everyone, this site is soooooo educational. I just knew you would be able help me.

I have emailed my service provider to ask them what to do when I want to access my account in the States. All I want to be able to do is check for any mails in relation to my accommodations/car hire etc. So once I can see all these and be able to check what I have stored in my folders - I%26#39;m sorted.

Thanks again

Check the ratings on the AC adaptor of your laptop, Most of them will say something along the lines of ';Input 120 to 240v AC-50-60Hz.

If yours says this then all you will need is a US adaptor for the plug. Also, Take an RJ45 lead with you. If you need one to connect to the internet at your hotel, alot of the hotels charge for one. If you use wireless then no need to worry about that.

Read too fast... I thought this was a thread about FirstTimer...thought it said Irish lapdances....LOL

Have got a few of them in my day.Only problem is the spikes on the high heel hurt my thighs, and the wife invariably falls off...................lol lol lol

matandbeck, a fair amount of Vegas hotels don%26#39;t have wireless internet so it%26#39;s incorrect to say that if your laptop is wireless enabled then you%26#39;ve nothing to worry about in terms of cables.
