The Western on Travel Channel

I was watching a Vegas advise show on TC Wednesday Night (yeah, I know they have 20 of them in the rotation) and they were talking about ways to save money. Granted the show was from 2002, but they were talking about saving money by staying in off street hotels during busy times. They showed some no name motels and then low and behold....a picture of the Western Hotel and Casino sign. Wife and I just sat there laughing about the poor family that believes the if TC listed the place, it must be safe. I can just see them on the computer going to the Western website, calling and booking a room without looking at reviews and comments and thinking what a deal they got.

What%26#39;s next? Rachel Ray recommending the Tuna Casserole there as a bargain meal?

I think the Western was actually worse in 2002 than it is now!

I would love to see Rachel visit and have the ';cheese sandwich'; or ';Mexican Specialties'; from the snackbar for lunch on $40 a Day! She could show us how to score a can of beer for a $1 tip by eating at the slot machines!

The other day , some ';Travel Expert'; on Regis and Kelly was touting Vegas as a great place for family vacations- specifically suggesting the Circus Circus as a WONDERFUL hotel full of great activities and entertainment ';and the rooms start at only $79!'; Regis and Kelly happily nodded along with her suggestions- so now I wonder how many families are planning their first Vegas vacation at the LUXURIOUS Circus Circus because of that.

I was screaming Noooooo! at the TV set , but I guess no one heard me!

It used to be that you could get a room at Circus Circus for $39.00 but they have been doing some clean up and remodeling... so You are looking at around $79 with maybe a promo of $59. The good news is they are cleaning the place up. I wouldnt believe it if I hadnt seen it myself. I guess MGM didnt want a dive on its hands anymore. It will be interesting to see just what they really do with the place... In the mean time... I am lmao about the Tuna Casserole bargin meal ALA Rachel Ray. haah haha haha!!

I wonder who is paying Regis and the TC to endorse these places... hum!

The area is improving but the Western is still a bit rough and even I, a true enjoyer of the low, have never stayed there, not yet anyway.

I might try to check out a room some day, if I can swing it.

Still perhaps Clark Griswald will go there on another Family Vacation.

The show was called the Top 10 Ways to Win in Vegas and doesn%26#39;t air again until February 21st at 1PM in the afternoon, but is worth a TIVO if you have it.

I am setting my reminders for the show on 2//21 - We actually looked at another site that listed the good ol%26#39; Westren and actually tried to make it look like a desirable location for your vacation and my hubby and I said the same thing about some poor unsuspecting souls booking this place- We plan on the famous dive bar crawl in July ourlselves!! Cant wait to see Joe and Stella at the Atomic- Loved your trip report BTW when you made the visit!!

Calling the Western for a room reservation would be like faxing in your order to McDonald%26#39;s for a Happy Meal at 2 in the afternoon... LOL
