I have just done some reading on other sites about the El Cortez and actually it has gotten some great reviews and also Ambrva (sorry if I spelled this wrong) on this site has said it%26#39;s an okay place to stay. Has anyone else stayed there? I would definitely stay in a tower room and don%26#39;t mind the walk to the FSE.
El CortezNever stayed there but fellow poster and dive Tripper the Mailman did. The tower rooms are ok but the older ones above the casino share the same air system as the casino and are for smokers only.
The main security presence found around the FSE does not reach there but I saw a fair number of METRO cops driving around. All you are likely to run into between there and the FSE are panhandlers and persons offering certain pharmaceutical goods and personal services you might want to avoid. Just say NO and by all means remain a moving target. You find the same areas in any big city, New York, Chicago or LA. The aame rules apply, don%26#39;t count money in dark alleys, etc. If you can handle those areas, you will be ok there.
Since you are there anyway, why not visit some of the local dives like the Western and the Atomic for added flavor?
El CortezA friend of Dh stayed there in May and said it was okay. He said that the Tv didn%26#39;t work well and the room was small. But he said it was clean.
