Are we crazy to go to LV in July?!!

We%26#39;ve only been before in Jan and March, so temp wasn%26#39;t an issue. This trip is 7/18-21.

Is it better to try and use the monorail (our hotel is on the East side of the strip)? Will we be drenched in sweat if we try to walk? Are cabs harder to get because of the heat?

Any tips for dealing with the heat will be greatly appreciated!

Are we crazy to go to LV in July?!!

Well seeing you are from Texas, you know what HUMID heat is and Vegas is DRY heat. We live in Kansas and have been to Vegas in June, July, and August and haven%26#39;t minded the temps. BUT as others will suggest, I%26#39;m sure, drink alot of water and pace yourselves. We took the monorail, and it was nice since we could cover a greater distance in less time but still walked quite a bit from the stations to get to the casinos or onto the strip. We kept on the move and would get inside someplace before we really got heated...I don%26#39;t think we would try and walk it though like from TI to MGM or something like that. The other thing I noticed was how cold the casinos seemed after being out in the heat so would actually get too cold until my body temp adjusted.

Heat may be an issue. Expect temps over 100 easily.

Which hotel?

I usually stay at MGM, and take the Monorail often. Right now 24 hour passes are $8. Waits between pickups are 6 minutes at peak hours. Up to 9 minutes non peak.

Cabs should not be an issue.

You%26#39;re from Austin (Love the song) Don%26#39;t temps get high there, and don%26#39;t you get the humidity?

LV is a dry heat, and if you drink plenty of water it may not be a problem. Depends on what you%26#39;re used to and your conditioning. Pop into each casino as you pass. Comfy shoes, hat, sun block.

Thanks for the info!

We%26#39;ll be at the Marriott Grand Chateau (timeshare), so I%26#39;m thinking we might use monorail some. But since part of the fun is walking down the strip, maybe we can save that part for later in the day when it%26#39;s not quite so hot.

Yep, we get pretty used to 100+ degree (HUMID) days here in Austin. I%26#39;m a little encouraged, tho - our summer heat doesn%26#39;t peak until August or September, so maybe that%26#39;s true in Vegas as well and it won%26#39;t just be overwhelming!

Guess we%26#39;ll be carrying around lots of water.

We will be arriving on the 22nd and really, we are looking forward to the heat!! It%26#39;s really not bad just be sensible. The heat doesn%26#39;t effect the availability of cabs so don%26#39;t worry. Have a great time!!!

No, you aren%26#39;t crazy. We%26#39;ve done it the past two years, both times in July, and we are going again in 13 more days. Coming from Canada I would imagine we feel the heat probably more than you would from Texas, but we like it.

You don%26#39;t sweat in Vegas, you dry up like a old sponge. The problem most people have in the desert is they do not feel as uncomfortable because you are dry. However by the time you feel hot, it is to late, you are going to be sick. Limit your outdoor activity, no amount of water can keep you hydrated from extended exposure as the dry heat draws the water out of you faster than you can put it in.

We have travelled in July, and will again- July 9, yay- and it is HOT. You really need to limit the walking. We found we had a hard time walking from one hotel to the other without getting cramps. And I am fro South Florida, so used to heat.

Comfy shoes, hat, sun block.

And sunglasses!

No, you are not crazy. The heat will be intense but the trip is doable. Pace yourself- don%26#39;t go rushing about. Try to do your major walking at night- that will provide some relief. If you find yourself getting too hot- pop into the nearest casino for a rest and a cool drink. You can buy bottled water -cheaply-at some of the little stores on the strip. Take advantage of this- dehydration is no fun. Buy a cooler for your room at Walgreens or CVS (near the MC), fill it with ice and keep bottled water (or other drinks) in it. Try to find a shady spot near the pool- you will still have to take frequent dips into the water. You will sweat but you will not notice it as much because the air is so dry it will instantly evaporate. You will not have problems finding cabs in the summer. Monorail- some people love it (lowrance) and some people think it is a waste of time(me) because of the hikes involved getting to the stations from the strip. Try it once and see if it works for you.

I have visited Vegas in the summer for many many years. When I walk out of that airport I still find that initial blast of heat a shock! But you will adjust and have a great time!

Was in Vegas a coupld of years ago in mid/late August. It was hot, but it was a dry heat so it was easy to deal with. Plus, everything is sooooo airconditioned that you can always nip into the next casino to cool down.

The only time I felt a bit funny is when I thought it would be a good idea to walk, at noon, from the Aladdin to the Fashion Show Mall while consuming a yard of margarita for breakfast. The walk wasn%26#39;t bad at all, but the yard of margarite + heat+ empty tummy probably wasn%26#39;t the smartest thing to do.

We go every year at this time. However, we don%26#39;t walk around during the day. We lay at the pool, then do our walking at night. It%26#39;s still hot, but at least the sun isn%26#39;t bearing down on you. We are also from Texas, and we get very hot weather here too. Have fun!
