watching people play?

As a spin off from the button pushing thread, is it always a faux pas to watch people gamble?

Part of the reason I don%26#39;t gamble much is that I just don%26#39;t understand. Everytime I go to a casino, I tend to get more enjoyment out of watching other people playing, trying to figure out how it works. I never disrupt anyone by asking questions.

But now I%26#39;m thinking I%26#39;m still committing a mortal sin just by watching.

watching people play?

I think if you stay back a comfortable distance most people wont mind. If you get ';the look'; just move on to another person.

watching people play?

i don%26#39;t want to speak for anyone else, but I think that pausing for a minute when someone hits a ';bonus'; on a slot machine to see how to play is ok... but hanging around, drinking your cocktail and smoking your cigarettes watching me at every spin of the wheels is a little excessive... and as far as being at a table, the best way to learn is to sit down and play. the dealers will always more than likely be nice enough to explain the game to you...

If you are just watching your spouse or your friend that might be ok, but to watch a total stranger is kinda creepy/annoying for the person being watched. I agree that alot of the slot machines now are next to impossible to understand but if you start playing them and reading the payouts you%26#39;ll eventually get it.

Last week, I was watching other people play Texas Hold %26#39;Em poker (the table game against the dealer) for about twenty minutes or so before I joined to play for real. I didn%26#39;t think this would be a sin, would it?

I%26#39;d almost rather have the person ask me a question rather than just stand there and watch. I agree if a bonus or something pops up...go ahead and watch. I have had people ask me about games, or sometimes people sitting next to me don%26#39;t know how to play the bonus on their machine ( a LOT of people don%26#39;t know that they can touch the screens in most cases!) and I will always happily answer questions!!

Lots of people stand and watch behind players playing table games, too - just don%26#39;t lean on my chair. I find that very annoying.

IMO, watching table play is much more acceptable then watching people play slots. I often check out the Craps tables and card tables before I join in to see if they have the right feel for me.

The only time I watch someone playing a machine is if they are a friend.

When I was watching, I was about at least a foot or two behind the players. I wouldn%26#39;t like it either if the watchers were breathing on my neck.

I don%26#39;t mind (and don%26#39;t notice) people watching me play at the craps table, but I hate it when a stranger is standing right behind me when I play BJ.

Amberm,

I understand why people watch, when I am playing BJ and craps.

Actually, watching a ';good'; crap game is fun.

But the easiest way to learn a game is either tak a class that some casinos offer for free (usually early mornings), or find a cheap table (Low minimum), sit down, and tell the dealer, that you don%26#39;t know the game. He will help you, and uou will learn much faster.

But I hate, whe people watch me when I play the slots, no matter what the distance is.

Once, I saw an older guy, move from one machine to the next, it was a cashman game, so I sat next to him, and started to play.

Everytime that the cashman showed up, and that stupid music started to play, this guy, stopped playing, and looked at my machine, and checked how much I won, and started cursing at the machine. That is pushing the buttons to the limit
