down town must do avoid at all costs
We usually stay downtown and have stayed at Binions before it was the worse place we have ever stayed at. But we did have an older room maybe if you can get a tower room it will be ok. I would try almost any other hotel down there.
We have been at;
4 Queens - ok
Fitzgeralds - good
Lady Luck - ok but closed for now
Plaza - good price beds very hard
Binions - terrible
Hope this helps. Good luck and have fun !!

Downtown is a love-hate relationship for people. You will either love it, or hate it, no in-betweens. Downtown is a taste of Old Vegas without the “movie-star” glamour seen in old movies.
If you like the glitz, Disney atmosphere, over priced mega-resorts/restaurants, children, shows, attractions, lights, bad table game rules, poor machine payouts, and shows of the strip: You will hate downtown because it has none of that.
What downtown does have is cheap gambling, inexpensive food/drink/rooms, street parties, and no rug rats. So if you are not into heavy drinking, gambling, and partying; then do not go to downtown.
I%26#39;ve stayed at the Binon%26#39;s Hotel 3 years ago for a turn around trip and would have never stayed there if our party wasn%26#39;t so big. I only reason that I felt safe was because our friends and family had room on the same floor.
The Hotel is surrounded by drunks and the casino floor is very smokey.
The upside is: the vibe downtown is very laid back ...the tables are a bit cheaper to play, and depending on your group you%26#39;ll have a good time regardless.
Good points by Vegashomeboy! We like Downtown simply because it%26#39;s SO SO less crowded!!
we stayed at the golden nugget a few months ago and really liked it. our room was very nice, and we used our rental car to go to the strip most of the time but it was cool to spend one evening downtown and check out the light show and do some gambling.
Must do- Fremont Street Experience-kitchsy but lotsa fun
Avoid at all costs- footlong hotdogs and fried twinkies
Are you kidding?!?!? Those fried Twinkies are FANTASTIC! And the fried Oreos are even better. Those are on my must do list every time.
Must do- the 99 cent shrimp cocktail at the Golden Gate Casino Deli- which we like to follow with their French Dip sandwich. To be avoided at all costs -the awful time share sharks at the entrances to Four Queens, the Fitz and Golden Nugget- although I guess there are many of those same types bothering people on the Strip as well. We also like to sit at the outdoor patio of Starbucks in front of the Golden Nugget and watch the crowd go by.
thanks to you all for your thoughts , ihave to say i didnt expect much from binions as a hotel even when i booked it but your comments are making me re think that !!!! and we arrive labour day weekend so i expect it will be manic ? i like the idea of no kids , though so maybe .
